I got an HPI dodge charger shell ages ago and got it to fit my Ta01 chassis.I painted it Tamiya's metallic blue and it dawned on me that it would have been cool if i had done it black like the bad guys in Bullitt.or even the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee.

So i guess there are plenty of movie or tv vehicles that could be done.ive thought of a few please feel free to add..

Fall Guy's pick up

Airwolf (obviously a helicopter r/c) that fired rockets would be sweet!

Starsky and Hutch's Gran Torino

Herbie

Bond's white Lotus Esprit ( could be a sub!)

Bullit Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang

Pretty much anything out of Fast and Furious franchise

A team Van..ah pity the fool who dont make an A team van

Face's Corvette

I ve drawn a blank as im trying to figure out what shells are avail....

I would love a '70s Pontiac Firebird shell to do either Jim Rockford's car or the Bandit's Trans Am.

I have done two Mustangs in the past: a dark green "Bullitt" one and "Eleanor," the silver-and-blue '67 GT500 from the Gone in 60 Seconds remake.

gone in 60 seconds! thank you markbt73.that was drivin me crazy.eleanor!

i guess i should have a trawl through the showrooms to see whats out there.

Smokey and the bandit would be cool too.

just had a thought.....you could get pretty much any race touring shell and paint it on the outside with black or that VIP porsche paint......you would have yourself the cop car from Robocop!lol!!

Speaking of HPI's '69 Charger, I just finished my homage to the car star of 1974's 'Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry' using a stretched TL01 converted to RWD...

As for others, how about Tamiya's Beetle done up as Herbie?

Or a Parma Jeep Honcho done up in yellow, ala 'Twister'?

(Hey, HPI...can we get a 1970 Challenger R/T, pleez?? Vanishing Point!)

The Mad Max cars would be awesome. The Wild One is very similar to some of the buggies used in Mad Max 2. I also used a beat-up King Blackfoot shell on a TL01 to make a truck inspired by Mad Max 3.

New pics coming soon as I've made a few changes, plus I'm making a tent for the rear (just like Max's caravan truck).

I'm also in the process of building a series of cars and trucks that feature in the novels and short stories that I've written in the past.

what was colombo's car? i think it may have been a very old pegeuot but im not sure. also does anyone make a shell like that? if not im desperatly after a 3ltr mark1 capri, would be in yellow with a black roof.

Forget Max Mad, how about Buckaroo Banzai's famous Jet Car?

Oh, you sick S.O.B.! I love it! "Sined....Sealed....Delivered."

I'm looking at my old, beat-up Blackfoot body...and my RWD TL01 chassis...and I'm-a-thinkin'!!

Can you say Model Rocketry engines??? I knew you could! :D

What about the trotters reliant, or del boys capri?

And does anyone think that the lunchbox would make a sweet teenage mutant ninja turtles van...

He He -- Couldn't resist ...

Family Truckster? :D

Depending on personal taste, one could even include a 'Grandma' figure on the roof. :o

there are some truly great builds there. :o

im surprised that the dodge charger seems to be the hpi or build your own.More shell makers should try abit of variety.I look on ebay etc and it seems you can have any shell you want....as long as its a subaru.....a subaru impreza....a rally one. :D

I know...simply make a cool movie or tv show featuring an Impreza as the cool guys car!lol!

WOW just had a better look at the Fall Guy pick up.man that is fantastic.

I loved the opening sequence on the Fall Guy were the truck jumps out in front of the porsche. The model has captured the Fall Guy's big balloon tyres that squished when it lands!

The Mad Max cars would be cool if there was a race track full of them.It would be great to have all manner of buggies ,modded muscle cars and trucks all racing around on a dusty dirt track! (poss without the spikes and chains etc!)

Tyrell six wheeler!Corpse Thrower.Do you think thats what Gerry Anderson used?

Come to think of it the "Overlander" from TerraHawks would be the ultimate crawler!

Anything from Gerry and Sylvia Andersons imagination would be fantastic, wouldn't it?

I've complained about this in other threads. HPI has a '70 'Cuda AAR in 200mm touring car size, and there are a bunch of Mustangs (old and new) and Camaros (most 1st gen) out there. But that's about it.

The two HPI bodies I grabbed are 180mm wide shells meant for (get this) Monster Truck use! What the..??!?

photo6315rb3.jpg

How's that for tragedy and comedy, film fans?!?

They are cursed with enormous fender wells that are molded in, so it is very difficult to change their size and location to suit a car chassis at all. Heck, the wheelbase of most touring cars is in the 10 inch range and these bodies have 11.5 inch wheelbases! So if you want to run these two shells, you've got to cut and stretch the chassis, custom-like.

They are also saddled with intenionally-too-large blowers sticking out of the hoods. HPI includes extra pieces so you can cut out the blower and put back a stock hood piece...but this leaves a hideous visible joint on the Charger. Talk about backwards! Why not just make the body stock and include a blower for adding on??? (answer: the bodies are meant for kiddies with limited customizing talents)

I stretched my eBay-found $11 spare TL01 chassis 1.5" (to fit the Cuda) then found the Charger needed another 1/4". Since my color was going to be bright, I figured it would help hide a custom-cut rear wheel well, so I 'moved' it forward a bit. Here are new shots of the car outside yesterday-

You'll notice that, unlike 200mm bodies, the tires barely tuck under the fenders. This looks more scale, but I expect I'll have some rub issues. I'm going to use a camber kit to tilt the tires a bit in hopes of minimizing body interference. We shall see.

What tank chassis for this then?

I actually have a vintage plastic model of UFO's mobile unit here! I wonder if I could TamTech it up???

mobile01ns2.jpg

The tread length is 4 3/8" (112mm), body length is 5.5" (139mm) and the body width is 2.5" (64mm).

Any of the RC tanks in the range of this thing's size?
