I was wondering what other members here have been really struggling to find for their restoration.

For my part the worst one has been this little ******: an original and actually unused Porsche 934 58001 Mechanical Speed Controller.

934 MSC

It took me a Zillion year to get one, after a few battles lost on ebay and more sleepless nights that I can count

But guess what? Well it's on TC that I got it !

The second one was a set of decals for the old F-2 Ralt RT2 Hart 420R...

Ralt RT2 HART 420R

Now, what was yours ???

Pics please.

I spent quite some time to get the chrome bits for my Sand Scorcher restoration.

Not many of these for sale that has not been split up. For some reason I got it for approx. USD 50 on ebay

Spend many - many ... many hours finding the elusive XL-70 ( for the Volvo FH12 ) Carson

decals..

Up until today, still nothing

Finding -any- restoration ( new ) parts for the Leopard 1A4 & Flakpanzer Gepard , especially the small

body details.

A shedload of paypal later, everything was found in the end. But, as far i can remember, took me nearly

2 years to get the parts complete for the last two 1A4 resto jobs.

Especially the commander hatch rings where a nightmare to find.

Im after FORD ESCORT DECAL SHEET Part Number: 10678 by Parma..

I just cant find it anywhere.. I know its quite new compared to some things, but most of the old stuff appears on Ebay.. I've been after this sheet for 4 years

Hotshot Mk 1 bumper and skid plate, ie 'C' parts. Waited for 4 years to see them come up on ebay but it will never happen. That's because Tamiya simply never issued them as spares since they quickly redesigned them shortly after the car was released. :(

ok it took me 4 months to find a set of 959 nip gear casings worth the wait as i got them for 15 in the packet. still after a used super champ body. doubt i will ever find a traxxas rad 2 gearbox.

Hey! I'm pulling my hair out trying to find those old pan chassis parts! The mechanism box has been the absolute toughest part I've ever looked for. Decals coming in a close second. This guy in Hong Kong has a bunch of old decal stuff, but at $75 a sheet it gets a bit problematic especially with my first kid going to college! Yow!!!

For me it's the Egress damper parts bag. Those are the only Avante series parts I don't own. And since that would be my only reason for purchasing them, I've given up looking for them... :D

You don't mean part no. 10377 Ford Escort RS Cosworth do you? As you can still buy that whole shell and decals NIP for 25 GBP from your local Parma dealer. Maybe you mean a different car?

BTW For me it would be the infamous black SRB bumper (yeah I know I could dye a grey one), or the SRB gearbox. Although to be fair I managed to acquire 3 perfect gearbox halves (!) and one nearly perfect so now I do have the 2 'perfect' gearboxes that I wanted (for a RR and SS).

Also (but it's a magazine I know) Model Cars, Spring 1981, for the SS advert, I had that mag. when I was 7 years old and it got chucked out. I have looked for 5 years now for that one. I recently got Model Maker with the same ad. on it but I seem to remember that it was the Model Cars issue that I had instead as the Model Maker one doesn't seem to make me remember (I don't recall the front cover or the contents)...

Oh and of course a perfect SS body, I got that early on but it took me 6 months of Easy Off, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, and using my nails, to remove the gold metallic lacquer paint, it was almost impossible to remove. Astonishingly I found a perfect shell underneath. On all my other attempts to get a SS body off the bay I have been mostly royally screwed over them by various sellers... ;)

.....................AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....................Now that all my vintage stuff is gone, I don't have to worry about this finding things! :)

But when I had my Sand Rover......it took me forever and quite a bit of cash to get he Head lights / tail lights, but I found a whole tree with driver and all for $60+ USD.

I also had a time finding the little grey plastic piece that held the gear shaft down!

Now my biggest worry is TGX tires and wheels! :D

Looked forever for a NIP set of SR/HB gears. And i found them here on TC, for a good price. I did see another set on Ebay, but they werent cheap i can tell you. If anyone wonder how a SR/HB runs with new gears and a 540, i can tell you. 1: Very smooth and very silent. 2: Very (much to) fast.

My most wanted part was a pair of Hi Cap dampers........but they had to be new and NOT in a packet.

The reason for this was I wanted to use them in a buggy that would run,and i couldnt bring myself to get a set in Tamiya's packaging ,only to bust it open!( they are quite expensive too!!).

Luckily Victor101 on ebay had loose parts ,and i managed to build them correctly with seperate parts.I recall they worked out at about 12-13 a pair for the mini size and that included the spring set with the square profile springs.

If you wait long enough, just about anything will come to you. In some cases it takes many years, but eventually it will still turn up. I've waited for a lot of things over the years, some parts, some whole cars, but my "impossible to find" list has grown a little shorter each year. Often when I least expect it, some rare item will suddenly appear, for sale from someone in some far corner of the globe...

Thinking about it, even back in the day, did even Beatties have any significant amounts of SRB spares that were NOT tyres and wheels or boxed body kits? Fair enough, I never entered my first model shop until I was 13 (1987) (because they were far away from me) but I certainly don't remember seeing "Racing Buggy Uprights" or the SRB rear cage or the Racing Buggy speed controller or etc. on sale. Only kits...

And of course nowadays you can buy excellent condition Mabuchi RS-540S motors (black endbell) or SRB chassis plates (i.e. things that I don't recall Tamiya ever offering as spares, and I am pretty sure that Beatties never offered them in stock?!) quite easily almost every fortnight or so on the bay...

However it's just like what someone said recently on here, Ebay parts are like a lottery (well, used ones anway). Gold can be found but you also don't half get ripped off sometimes. Vintage restoration can be quite painful in this regard... but then I wouldn't just switch to using only modern R/C's, not for a gold clock...

Here is my most wanted part. F2 540 gear box. I have seen these a few times but the price is just to crazy just for a gearbox. I have a F2 Honda that someone mounted a F103 gear box on.

Not really that special of a car but thats the part i have needed for a while now.

For a long while, I wanted HotShot parts that were not bashed into oblivion or priced so high I couldn't pay for them and eat. I got married by SELLING my Porsche 959 chassis in little run condition and bashed bodyshell in order to buy my TUX for the wedding. I had given up much hope about finding another NIB bodyshell(Saw ONE in my life in 1997 NIB for $45 USD at a LHS, couldn't afford it) that I sold it to a guy in Australia, don't know who, but the deal was done in 2003, so think back all you folks, you bought it from a Texan, so that may jar your memory.

Anyway, the RE RE took care of most of my HS needs, still want an original chassis tub to recreate a SuperShot correctly. The list of WANTED parts could go on if my memory somehow became unclogged. I am thankful for the TC club as I just recently got the 4 year part of the ASTUTE Undercowl in NEW UNCUT condition to go with the rest of my bodyset. I completely tore the car down at the chassis since I had new FRP to install and then reassembled the car in all it shelf glory with the complete and now CLEAR bodyset. I haven't installed any velcro on it.

Part I am looking for now, the T parts for the yellow CVA shocks as they have the proper shock end for King Cab and a few other project cars I have in mind. I also am looking for a King Cab Bodyset, last one just sold for $150 including shipping OUCH, I can't do that. I had been looking for KC tires and a silly screw set, but another TC member took care of the screws and I will be happy with the ALMOST new tires I have along with ONE PAIR of new that I traded for.

I wish I had more time to build and a robot bid and looked all over ebay and the like for the parts for me. I also wish I had some lottery winnings so I could afford whatever struck my fancy as far as kits go old and new.

An old thread, but fun and I think it can have another lease of life :D

My most wanted part for a long time was original Wild Willy tyres. I had a period where I would focus my funding on those alone - I actually would win every pair that came up on eBay, no matter what the price, for many months. And still, this system was only powerful enough to yield about 4 packets of tyres, in the space of something like 2 years.

That was a few years ago. Now, I think these tyres are in fact much more scarce than before. So I'm glad I made the effort when I did.

cheers,

H.
