Hi all,

Finally completed my TT-01... after god knows how many hours and 400+! I raced it tonight and it went really well. It has the 3 racing carbon/graphite chassis, ball diffs, alloy upgrades (there is not one standard item left on it). Some of the guys down the club had a bash and they all said they were amazed that it is a tamiya and said that it was a competition standard car. Even i must say that i was amazed at the difference a carbon chassis made. I would definately recomend it to anyone. Why spend loads of money on a TA-05 or an Associated when you can mod a TT-01 that will give even the top racers a run for their money! Hope someone finds this helpfull as i heard a few negative reviews from racers who seemed to be more concerned about image than practicallity and originality.

Cheers folks....

Happy your car works but I had to pick up on one point.

You said "Why spend loads of money on a TA-05"

And you said "how many hours and 400+"

Well I sold my TA-05 with some upgrades for 50 the other day and it was in good condition so I don't really see why you said you can mod a TT-01 and still give top racers a run for their money when that car cost 350 more than a slightly used TA-05 (mine didn't have radio gear.)

I don't really go into racing but I know that one of the issues racers have with the tt-01 is where the motor is positioned in the car - which can't really be changed.

Just my thoughts. Joel

i think the same as joel really.

With an open cheque book you get nearly anything upto a good standard, But you could start with something much closer for a lot less. The TA05R for example is but a 1/3 of the price for your car and a lot better in design to boot,

espically around the core drivetrain and radio gear layout as well as the trf suspension that is just superb even for off road rallying on my touareg where it takes one badword of a pounding and its still rock solid.

Tho I do agree its great to beat people with a tamiya :)

I know what you mean about spending so much money but radio gear alone costs 100+. And the amount of hours it took me to build it is kind of ireleveant. I find the best thing about rc is buildin my car. Its great. I could build and mod stuff all day. At first i thought i had only spent around 200! Doh! I buy things every now and again for it... spending a tenner here and twenty quid there. Its supriseing how it all adds up. What i'm really trying to say is... For anyone who has a TT-01 is that these little cars have so much scope and with a little time, love and money they can be great racers. Thanks for your comments guys...

I always think TT01 is a good basic design for a shaft car, although if play by the formula of economy rules one would choice to purchase a TB-EVO(3) OR TB-EVO(5),

and a lot would say wait for the TT01-E. But then, it is nothing wrong if you are not play by reference to common values, and you could find this 3-racing conversion kit is unique

in its own right.

Comments from player's in my local area had indicate some minor areas that need to fix up., and it is inherited the basic characteristics of the original

design, such as the location of battery and motor., the final-drive ratio...etc. But it's interesting to me that 3-racing take the risk to bring out this chassis

conversion kit., my feeling is this being an attempt to 3-racing's next step of maybe design a complete new chassis.

For comparision, the Tech Racing 4WD kit , and the FRP/CFRP chassis kits for M01 had regarded as 'collectible item' now a days, and I certainly wish I could

have purchase one of those kits when they were easily obtainable. Thus I would also think it's possible in future time one review this 3-racing kits the same as well.

thorpe12000, thanks for your comments about the graphite comversion kit. You're the only one who has anything positive to say about it. I'm glad you also let your club mates have a drive as it will improve the perception of this very underated car. I'm waiting for delivery of mine and I really can't see why people should see it as being uncompetitive. At my club everyone says "it's still a TT01" Well with upgrades, it doesn't have much Tamiya left at all. Hobbyshops such as RCMart sell parts really cheaply so upgrading doesn't cost nearly as much as going out and buying a new car. My club is a pretty informal one with people using Pan Cars and old touring cars so I'm looking forward to putting a modified motor in and having a go against them. I'll let you know how I get on.

whatever floats your boat, really. The TT01 has the huge advantage of being almost indestructible and inexpensive. if you start hopping it up, it makes it more fragile, and less inexpensive... and in the end it remains a TT01 with this flawed, non-adjustable suspension design full of friction, slop, and hysteresis at the same time as well as its sub-standard wheel track (175mm if I'm not mistaken, I measured mine a few days back).

I know, I have one, and I race TOCA - not with it, though :)

Hi,

A bit of an update. I've been "running" it for 3 weeks now but haven't had much success due to other problems. One thing I can say though is it is not just a "different" TT01. The set up is totally different, different suspension, different tyres etc which gives the car a totally new angle to work with. I'm still working on set ups and still getting used to it but I'll keep you updated.

After driving the hopped-up TT-01, I'd be interested to see how you do with a dialed-in TRF-416 or EVO 5.

These run the lightweight reversible suspension setups, with lightweight arms, hinge shafts, uprights, bearings and UJs. Running alloy suspension arms is not the best idea as while they are stronger, it can increase unsprung weight. These cars really respond well to tire and suspension settings as a result.

Even with carbon plates, tt01 has very flexible suspension arms, so it's not as consistent as other racers. Another thing is, you get no shock angle options, which is very limiting. the carbon chassis fixes the dodgy motor mount, but they could have reversed the position and mount it on the right side. suspension has to be the weakest point on tt01, and there still hasnt been any aftermarket solution. this evo can be had for about the same price as tt01+hopups. performance wise, there is no comparison.

Yourt TT01 cost TWICE the amount of my $300 LIGHTWEIGHT race prepped EVO IV... Atleast it sounds like you love your TT01, that is cool  BTW, I chose practicality (EVOIV) since I knew I would be racing only

Personally I think its great when people work on upgrading the cars. The TT01 with carbon chassis is a new car and I'm really hoping that its racing next week (where were you tonight mate?)

I'm interested in the saddle pack conversion for the ta05 myself... if only I could find somewhere that sells it!

I bought a Xray T2,007 laster year with 2 race motors 5 sets or race tryes and 4 bodys for 200 and had it built by the guy got it from. Spending 400 on upgrading TT01 on ludicrous. All I would ever do to a TT01 is bearings, ally main shaft and oil shocks. Anything more is just a waste of money.
