Hi, i'm Kevin from Glasgow. I'm 20, into cars and music and i drive a modified Mk2 Punto and have an S2 RST project on the go aswell.

I've got a TT-01 kit i built up when i was 12, recently bought a new shell for it and stripped down the chassis and gearbox for a clean and re-grease. I'm fitting a Ford Escort WRC shell to it and looking into buying another chassis to fit an Escort Cosworth Repsol shell. Where's the best place to pick up another TT-01 or TL-01 chassis or full kit from? I don't think the Repsol shell is a straight fit to either of these chassis but am i right in thinking with a bit of work it'll go on or am i better buying a different 4x4 chassis to fit it?

Shell-wise, what is the best way to trim the plastic from the wheels arches? My attempt when i was 12 ended up looking like a massacre. I'm not too bad with my hands, more used to using bigger tools and sanders so i'll need to learn to be delicate. Also if i get another TT-01/TL-01 chassis what is the best way to modify it to make it faster and handle a little better? I plan on leaving my original kit standard underneath. I'll probably be on the lookout for something RWD in the future and possibly a monster truck too.

enough of my ramblings, cheers.

Hi kevin and welcome to the club.

For another chassis I would say ebay or the Tc trades. A new TT01 kit from Hong Kong and the like is now around about 50/60 you could get the escort one and therefore end up with another spare runner shell.

The Repsol shell will fit straight onto a TT01/TL01 as its a stock tamiya shell 1/10th scale shell therefore of the same wheelbase (257mm) and width at around about 190mm. Tho you may need to adjust the rear bodymounts either way in order to use the correct holes for the shell. There are 2 positions for rear mounts on the TT01/TL01 a forward one over the rear wheel and a rear one that sits about an inch further back. the parts for both are included in the kit and the positions are the same for both cars.

For bashing both of these chassis are fine tho if you where going to do gravel rallying I would look at the TL01 more or a TB01 such as the one I use.

for hotups you will want to start with ball bearings and some better shocks over the stock friction ones. I would recormend the CVA plastic dampers from Tamiya avalible for about 12 posted from Jason on Ebay (JR-RC). Further mods are useful but I would avoid a lot of the alloy bling as it just adds weight at no increase in strength.

This long running rally thread should prove useful to you.

thanks for the advice, they are probably only going to be used on tarmac, learned my lesson from dirty ash pitches previously :)

i'll have a look on ebay and look about for shells and kits. Will be avoiding the bling bling stuff as you say, not a fan either

thanks again

hay, welcome to tc

it maybe bling bling but if your gona run a tt-01 then i would advise the alloy prop shaft, the plastic one has a lot of flex in it, the alloy one is much smother,

agreed and the alloy motor mount, but anything suspension leave as plastic as its better to break a knuckle than a chassis mount,

cheers, i have a feeling that it is the alloy propshaft that's in it, will look into the motor mount too.

any other bits worth upgrading?

with the tto1 theres load of upgrades, some worth while some not depends on what u want the car for? a tt-01 with aloy prop and motor mount and ball barings all round is a good car to bash, things like the ball bearing stering set up helps with the cars slopy handaeling, and the carbon upper frame helps to stiffent the chassis twist a bit. its all up to you, what i would advise is to start with bearing, motor mount and alloy prop, run the acar for a while, then do the steering and see what u think, then the upper frame etc...... do each mod on its own, then drive the car a bit, so u know the diffrence it makes,

i like the tt-01 its simple and fun to drive, and theres loads of hop ups for it, you bank account is your limit :-p

here my current tt-01 project, not finished yet, waiting on a few bits,

that doesn't look remotely like mine's

lovely looking though. Definitely inspired to buy a second TT01 or TL01 now, i'll get some pics of my current build-up when i get round to starting it again. Got uni exams to study for and an Escort engine to remove first.

what are rough prices for better batteries and motors? may eventually fit the braces and "coilovers" if i can afford to get a second chassis on the go
