Just sold my Schumacher (too fragile) and got a shed of a TA-05 off the 'bay. Seems to run OK though and as I have some spare cash I feel like treating myself. The budget will run to a TA-05MS if necessary but do I need to go that far just to run stock motors at the local club? I am thinking the R would be better as the plastic chassis would be easier to replace when it gets scuffed up outside.

Then last night I saw an Evo V and thought it was one of the nicest looking bits of kit I've seen. Are they any good? On the 'bay they seem to sit midway pricewise between an R and MS so now I'm all mixed up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

TA05R works well... there's an IFS "R" version coming out soon too (May).

TA05MS is a nice car but its the same price as a TRF 415 MSXX MRE 2007... i'd go for the longer name

Or for a little more, the TRF 416.

Evo5 is a fantastic car too if you like shaft drives; however its specific parts can be hard to source.

Happy with e5 & 05R at the mo, don't feel any need for newer technology yet.

woo. evo5ms is coming, but will it be redundant? Ta05 ms's are going pretty cheap these days and used trf415 should start flooding in as people upgrade to 416...

I have been running a TA05 IFS at my local club for the last few meetings with no probs. All I upgraded was to alloy front hubs, front UJ`s, TRF shocks and alloy motor mount. I run LIPO and 13.5 Brushless and with kit set up and Sorex 24r tyres it runs great out of the box with very little tweaking. I have also just bought a TA05R which has been upgraded to IFS, they are both great cars and handle really good straight from the box, Ive had no breakages which is great for a car with quite a low price tag.

yeah evo5MS is to be announced at the Shizouka Show

compared to old(ish) faithful here...

- yippee they've revised the motor mount with alloy to the rear bulkhead... shortened top deck to suit

very limiting and difficult access at the moment

-TRF416 steering geometry? ah well evo5 begat the 415MSXX MRE anyway, so no huge jump

-CF bumper topplate and battery strap... hope these find their way into the MS kit!!

Love Tamiya for offering an upgrade kit too for existing cars, halfprice to brandnew kit.

So no EVO 6?

Back to the thread..

I race a Hopped-Up EVO 4 with a CO27 PRO stock motor (rules are 27T only) and it carves up the Tarmac! Go with the EVO 5, You will not be dissapointed and it does not need any hop ups..

The IV is known to be stiffer than III. Which lower deck are you using?

All stock CF parts... eIIIse has 3mm chassis as std.

eIV had more oversteering tendency with sharp breakaway whereas eIIIse is more controllable at the limit.

Both were running HPI T-drifts and Novak 4.5 motors; spool or jammed diff front and balldiff rear.

How does the IV feel against the V?

e5 seems to generate more cornering grip with its lower CoG & it rides incredibly flat.

But otherwise it feels pretty much same as eIV... only going slightly faster (i'm guessing... 3.5 BL).

Have just put a front spool into e5 and haven't tried at grippy track yet.

Recently also upgraded its Novak GTB to a DSM version... amazingly now feels much smoother, didn't expect such improvement.

eV looks amazingly low profile compared to my eIV. I wonder how much difference it makes.. My driving is probably not up to par to take advantage tho. On the track, my older yokomo shaftie performs better than the eIV, and the top deck is so high, they shoulve named it HCG.
