Hehe that looks like fun, very much a simulation.

For something a bit less serious, have a Google for Re-Volt:

If you like the look of Virtual R/C wait until the autumn when they release version 4 which will also include electric and off road cars. Works best if you use the USB adapter plugged into a receiver, then you can use whatever settings you have on your transmitter to control the car.

Might havta give this sim a try, have been looking for a good one for a while. Lag will probably be terrible for me due to location in online games. Does it have a decent Single Player with competitive AI? It's one thing to have a track in your backyard to go drive everyday, but it still wears out cars and the occasional breakage... Sim is the perfect practice.

The 'RealRace G2' wasn't too bad for R/C sim. It's made by the same people as 'RealFlight G3.5'. Upon contacting Great Planes I was informed it's been discontinued.

The RealFlight is great for flying practice, far less expensive and easier to fix after a crash than in RL.

Cheers, Mark

I've VRC for a while now,

it does help me stay sharp when not racing much at the track, so that's a huge plus.

also I have friedns from all over the world using it, so I can still race against them, also great !

ANd, my buddy in the UK is doing some beta testing, and is very excited about the new stuff coming soon !!

I just need a faster PC to get the most out of it, and from what I know the new version will need a bit more processing power.

Is there offline modes for Virtual RC with some AI racers? My ping would be 350ms to any OS game server and not suitable for online racing or any online gaming for that matter. My line speed is fine @ 10mBit, just high pings.

'3D Ultra RC Racers' by Sierra is another small good RC game. Tricky to get it to work with dual-analog controller but worth the effort (It's settings are designed for a joystick and not 2 sticks).

Thread revival :P

How many TC members are using the latest VRC Pro now? Sadly, they haven't got the offroad in there yet, but they have 1:12 pancars, 1:10 nitro/electric and 1:8 nitro onroaders. Tamiya is in there with the TRF417 onroad chassis with brushless/li-po from 13.5T to 5.5T motors.

It's much better with controller . Always wanted to give it a go . But didn't in the end . Did play with out the controller & didn't like it . Not enough control with the left & right keys .

You can play it with an analog gamepad. My son is using a Logitech 2 stick USB gamepad ($25 from D*ck Smith) while we wait for his USB adapter to arrive. Just had to reprogram the axis with the Logitech Wingman app so that one stick is throttle and the other is steering. Bonus on the gamepad is you can also assign the buttons to key presses, so the refuel and reposition actions are on the controller instead of needing to use the mouse or keyboard.

It'd be nigh on impossible to play with digital or keyboard.

The USB adapter is 10 euro if you buy it with a month or more subscription (about $13AU). Well worth it to be able to use your real radio transmitter on the game, and also on other games that use the x and y axis. I have mine working also with the above mentioned games; Re-Volt, Realrace G2, and 3D Ultra Racers.

Offroad will be coming to Virtual RC Pro in July with the 1:10 4WD short course trucks and some offroad tracks. Can't wait to see what it's like and how much of an improvement it is over Realrace G2.

Hopefully they'll get the 1:10 electric buggys and 1:8 nitro buggys in there soon too.

Offroad SCT 4WD is now on VRC Pro with two new offroad tracks. It was released last friday.

There were also some other updates with it:

- Replay & race with replay mode

- Achievements system

- New dynamic camera

- Controller mapping

All quite handy.

The number of people driving has tripled since the update (can't imagine why). The offroad has been well done.

Another update for VRC Pro today. A 3rd offroad track. The free one! The offroad is great. Can't wait for 1:8 and 1:10 buggys.

Another new update on VRC Pro today. There's a new membership model!

FREE-TO-PLAY (F2P)
This new membership replaces the Trial and Lite memberships, and basically gives you exactly the same as Lite, but now for unlimited time and totally free. Extra tracks, cars and other content, can still be purchased as before.

ALL-INCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP
This new membership replaces the old Full membership and gives you access to all content: tracks, chassis, components, now and all future releases. As long as you have a valid all-inclusive membership subscription you can enjoy everything VRC Pro has to offer, and you're still building a loyalty discount (up to 30%) for your next renewal. We offer 1,3,6,12 and 24 months All-inclusive subscriptions, and even a premium Unlimited period subscription. Premium members pay once and then enjoy VRC Pro to the max for unlimited time.

This makes it much cheaper to play and opens the game up fully to paid members.

It's also cheaper to buy a 1 month subscription, and the USB adapter (so you can use your real transmitter) at the same time. That way you have the simulator fully unlocked/open and a good controller when you first start.

I have played this & never got into it .

The offroad section is promising but imo not interesting to pay money for as long as they keep it at 4WD SC and +/- 3 tracks (that are all dirt). I found it to be a fun and useful training tool to keep your skills from going into decline when you can't go to a track for 3+ weeks, but it can't come close to the real thing in terms of experience for me :) After all you can have just as much fun at the trackside :P

[Threads Merged]

Hi all, not sure where to put this thread as it's not specifically Tamiya (mods please feel free to re-home it in the correct location), but does anyone here use Virtual RC Pro simulation? What are you  experiences with it? Is it a legitimate training aid, do you find it useful? I have been using it a lot recently, and have definitely got much better at driving it... however I haven't run any of the RC cars I'm building yet (they're not finished...), so no idea how it translates into the real world as a simulation tool / training aid. I have a lot of experience in sims (driving and flying mainly) so have a good handle on how they translate, but I would be interested to hear this community's opinions if any. Thanks.

If only it were true; otherwise I would never have to buy spares :P

I imagine simulators are mostly useful for circuit racing - in that environment, it is essential to get a feeling for driving a car from a fixed viewpoint while keeping it from surrounding obstacles, including other cars. The consequences of hitting the latter are too great to risk just "feel out" circuit racing if you want to get invited back!

I never used a simulator and never had to; however that is because I have never driven in a race or on a dedicated circuit and instead learned in a relatively-open space with my first car. Nonetheless, I could still find one useful to add some refinement to my driving...
