Wow bad run with the Savage LE. I have one too, my only pick at it is the unreliable engine. Only parts I've had break in 44 litres of fuel is the one-way hex bearing in the roto-start, a cracked fuel tank and had both exhaust rubbers blow out. I'm still on my first clutch bell and plastic spur, they show signs of wear but nowhere near needing to be replaced yet. My diffs and 3 speed are still shimmed as they came from factory, no slipping, breakages. Not worn a set of brakes out and they still have plenty of meat and will tumble the truck nose first if applied too hard. The one thing I did do was strip the truck and build it from scratch again when I first recieved it and threadlocked everything. RTR for me means built, but not ready to run... not after finding a nut under a carby before.

I've been doing some crazy things with it too, like jumping the car and flat throttle into a table drain and sail through the air out the other side. Gets some serious abuse I wouldn't attempt with my Tamiyas.

The worst RC I've owned would have to be the Kyosho Mini-Z. This thing was a waste of $300AU. Ran for 5 minutes then spat the gears out of the special Kyosho steering servo and the "T" bar that holds the rear diff snapped. The only bump it ran over in that 5 minute run was the strip between the carpet and the lino. I wasn't impressed. The car was brittle like it had been left in the sun in pieces for a year. It goes good now it's been built into 1:32 scale slotcar.

Best RC car is a tough one. So many put a massive smile on my face.

Offroad electric it would have to be my Top Force chassis'd Blazing Star, love the way this car handles even though it's gearbox and diffs struggle to handle the power of my chosen motor.

Onroad electric would be the TA03F-Pro. Only problem I ever have with this car is dust building up in the pulleys and the belt slipping. The red dust here packs like concrete. Would be a perfect car with this chassis layout and a shaft drive.

Offroad nitro would be the Hot Bodies Lightning 2 1:8 buggy. Awesome bit of kit this.

Onroad nitro is the HPI RS4 Evo3, probably not the best car stock but once you fill it full of GPM parts and replace the HPI engine with an OS they go like a rocket, very reliable and easy to use.

Cheers, Mark

Great topic and one that will herald many different responses. For me-

Best

Tamiya Hornet. The original I had in Singapore was just crazy. Always came back for more, the most reliable and durable runner ever!

Worst

Tamiya Striker. Dreadful thing with that rear drive shaft set up. Ugly, slow and unreliable

best car i have ever had and still have is my TB01, Superb on all surfaces. peerlessly reliable (touch wood) and a really good laugh add to that it can take the 32mm wide slicks and wets makes things all the more entertaining.

this is closely followed by my original tamiya TT01 that even tho its never really been more than slightly hotted up is always a great drive and really enjoyable to throw about the place.

worst car well its not so much a total car but parts of cars that i find really disapointing.

- TL01B how slow do you want to accelerate ;) make a buggy with a touring car ratio is just asking to problems and the monocoque chassis is also prone to snapping the suspension mounts which needs a whole new chassis.

- XC steering is also appaling as it quickly wears out and if you take it on the beach when newly built it swiftly fills up with sand and grit ruining your fun

- All the MO3/Mo4/TL01 battery pack holders that are now to small along with those of the XC for the modern packs. I mean come on tamiya can we at least give some room for development of other technologies in the cars, You over engineer the diffs so why not some more room in the battery dept to power these "forseen" motor upgrades.

Best:

My beloved ReReBrat. No way to distroy this car - even with a 11t Motor the diff and the gears just laugh. With this setup the car is so amazing fast that people just couldnt belive it how the car performces.

Worst:

M04L - Ok the car was in standart setup without any options, but it handels so bad that I sold it before start to tune it. I thought it would be something like a onroad Brat but noway to run it even on flat tarmac with out runing for every small bump in the surface - so you couldnt drive a straight line.

Just happy that its gone.

I know its not a car but my favorite RC has to be my King Hauler, its deffinitily the best thing Ive ever bought.

My worse has to be the Tamiya Stadium Raider because the drive shafts kept breaking, wheels would fall off for no reason. I ended up selling it for about 20 RTR

The best car i've ever owned would have to be my Emaxx. Yeah, it's a money pit and it eats it's driveshafts nearly every run but it never fails to put a huge grin on my face every time i run it.

Close second is my SS, still as good as the day it was bought. It's never been rebuilt or restored and it still runs sweetly.

The worst would have to be my Dirt Thasher. Everytime i've run it, somethings gone wrong. It's caught fire, bend driveshafts and the last time it ran, it broke the motor mount. And thats all with the stock 540 it came with!

I guess sometimes you just get a lemon.........

Worst: DF-03 buggy. I can't keep this thing running. I can't keep the dogbones in the front, and the CVD's or whatever they are called, that I bought, were too short. The aftermarket parts for this vehicle don't seem to be correctly measured. This might be a good buggy, but because I have never been able to keep it running without breaking, I have to say it is the worst one I've got. One of these days I'll try to fix it and get it running.

Best: Tamiya F350 High Lift. The only problems with it are the leaf springs get bent out of shape almost every ride. The ground clearance with the stock tires isn't that great. The first and second gears are too slow, and 3rd gear is good, but I wish for more overall speed. Although, the handling is not very good, and it is prone to flipping over, I wish I had more speed.

Other than that, it is very reliable, and can take a lot of abuse. The transmission and differentials are especially strong, and have pretty much no wear at all, even with tons of use. The only parts I have broken are the bumpers.

Worst for me is the Baja King, breaks far too easily.. ;) a real pile of doo doo in my opinion!

The best is a close call for me, DB01, HB Cyclone for racing and any XC or high-lift, obviously all very different but all great fun in their own way :D Oh and you can't beat a grasshopper for running on the beach :P

Couldnt agree with you more on the leafs front, I have used mostly highlift underpinnings on my Support truck and the Leafs are always bending ;) espically on the front such that it never goes in a straight line, But who cares it looks :D and is great fun to "cruize" about

Would advise an ansmann clash 23 turn motor in there, cheap and a nice increase in power over the stock motor. I find I spend most of my time in second as 3rd isnt really that much faster yet seems to feel less responsive.

I would say my worst was my Marui Big Bear. That sucker strips gears like it was meant to or something. I still love it though. So much that I bought one NIB to build and never drive. And still have a runner too. If you don't go in reverse then forward to do wheelies alot. And you are carefull about how much you let it bounce when driveing off road, I have found the gears actually hold up alot better. LMAO, Try telling me that when I was 14..

My best I would have to say is My original RC10T team truck with a 17 turn reddy motor, 2.2 HPI wheels and geolander tires. Granted I haven't driven a newer version of it. But that sucker takes a licking and comes back for more. I haven't had to replace anything on it that wasn't because of something I did. In other words anything that has broken on it was my fault. I think the only thing I have replaced is the spur gear because it came unscrewed since dumb me forgot to put thread lock on the screws. And it still worked, I just can't stand a clicking transmission, lol. Oh ya, I bent the universal shafts too, but that is what happens when you jump and wreck hard on cement. Even with a 3600 NIMH pack and a 17 turn motor with run times around 20 minutes it still takes it. And it was never meant for that kind of run time that is for sure. Back when that truck was made, you got 5 minutes if you were lucky.

The worst for me was the stock Blackfoot, my first truck. The hex dog bones were and still are aweful, which made the truck soft and I could not race it without spending $$$ to make it strong enough to accept a stronger motor. Later on, King Cab to the rescue....

The best is difficult, best to me could mean different things..

My Best is the car I am currently racing, the EVO IV. A great racer with no problems, a fun Tourer. I must say my King Cab is my fav. vintage runner. The 501X is a great buggy.. Also I must include the Lunchbox and M02 A110 Alpine, both always put a smile on my face :) - both were sold years ago..

i'm still quite a newbie so i have only had 2 tamiyas and i think there both great fun so i don't really have a worst

i've got a tl-01 and a twin detonator and they're both great

Best: Probably the Lunchbox - awesome fun.

Worst: Probably the E-Maxx - fun, but breaks too much and a PITA to work on. :(

Best : My rere'd VLB with oil shocks, 23T motor, and metal body posts, as this allows it to take real abuse without buying chrome parts trees on a weekly basis. But the Special Award goes to my original Monster Beetle, bought in early 1987 when I was 12, and which to me was and still is the most gorgeous car ever released. I remember it performing flawlessly, with unbelievable speed, handling and with fantastic looks. After 20+ years in RC I still think the looks are killer, but I also believe that my performance references are probably completely different today. To make sure, I restored a monster beetle which is going to run soon, that one has all the period performance hop-ups (CRP, Thorp, and the likes) - I suspect I will be disappointed ;)

Worst: My first ever hobby-grade RC-car, a MRC Bullit, which was sold to me in 1985 (or 1986?) by a shop which wanted to get rid of old stuff (1982 design...) to a kid who didn't know the difference between an Ultima and a willy's wheeler... I paid a lot of cash for this thing, which was a huge POS, and that I actually still own, in almost mint state as it only ran a few times due to it being awefully boring to run (4-cell packs...). Thankfully, the Monster Beetle took over not long after :( For those of you who don't know the Bullit, here's a pic (not mine, but mine was the same)

Woah - wacky chassis layout!

Favourite car - Terra Conqueror or Stadium Thunder - great fun to drive... oh hang on - Dyna Storm - even more fun to drive!

Worst car - Losi mini T - has been a right pain in the backside to get running, but it is now, and I am actually enjoying it...

Now that does look like a dinosaur, I must say at the mo Im pretty pleased with my MO3 mini from Gruntfuggly. I have put it back to stock M04 width and its an absolute hoot really. tho it does have a habit of rolling over when it goes over a bump unlike the Tb01, but that just adds to the charm :L

for me the best is my associated T4, sorry its a not a Tamiya ;) I was gonna say my GH2 Super G but that would have mainly been for sentimental reasons as it was my first serious car and to be fair i thought it was the fastest thing i'd seen at the time!

for the worst car i won't include any Tandy jobs or Radio Shack or anything you had to follow beacause it was remote controlled rather than radio  , but i'm gonna have to say my Rising Storm. potentially gonna upset a lot of people with that but i just never enjoyed driving it even though i had a fair few hop ups on it. was never happy with the ground clearance on it which, i think, is a bit of a pre requisite for an off road car.

a hard question to answer that as we all enjoy different cars for many different reasons, sure to raise a few heated debates amongst groups of friends! :)

Best and worst all rolled into one has to be the Marui Ninja. I loved it so much even though the thing spent more time being repaired than running, mainly due to the plastic being so soft and the gear shredding!!

Other best: Without a doubt the Tamiya Monster Beetle..what a fantastic car..PLEASE PLEASE RE-RE it Tamiya! :)

Worst in history has to be the Kyosho RS2000! No-one on here seems to have ever had one, but I have to say pony! The engine was a joke and I rebuilt it with every part possible yet it would always overheat and the rip pull on it used to slip all on the time ;)

Marui cars were kind of like the Fiats of the RC world: cool, fun, fascinating, but horribly unreliable. Unfortunately, they were so cool/fun/fascinating that you just kept fixing them when they just kept breaking. I feel your pain.

I've never been impressed by Kyosho nitros...best way out is to upgrade to an OS those are like motors, just goes and goes...

Tamiya Front wheel drive Mondeo, I managed to do a great paint job on it, but just drove horrible!!

Best cars? Well my current setup, Avante/Egress family models, Top Force, Dyna Storms, TGX 1/8 which was pretty impressive too! But my first Boomerang and being new to Tamiya was awesome as a 12 year old!
