Must have pressed the wrong button twice on my Novak Ionic and charged my 3300 nimh 6 cell pack as having 7 cells.....

It beeped saying it was done, but as I took it off the charger I noticed straight away it was the hottest battery ever!!!! Making the plastic covering soft....I was afraid it was going to explode so I put it outside! LOL

Have I killed my battery, or could I discharge/charge it a few times without it exploding on me?

Let it cool off, and give it a drive. Should be ok, as long as you don't do that too often - like again :)

I think everyone has cooked a battery once in their time, and mostly they are none the worse. If it was going to let go, it would in the 1st 15 minutes off the charger.

3300mah batteries are a bit more robust than newer higher capacity cells, so they can handle a bit of abuse. You have overcharged them but just run them and recharge them to see if they have been damaged.

At least it wasn't an Intellect 4200, those are known for having a habit of exploding when overcharged :)
