Hi guys, I have just finished building my new Hornet! The one problem though is that it keeps throwing the small diff gears from the main diff gear cog (the cog that has the 3 smaller diff gears in!). Can anyone tell me if this is a problem or quite what I have done wrong and how I can fix the problem?

Many thanks :)

Double check that you've built everything according to the manual, and haven't forgotten any parts. Did you leave out the metal spacer on the left driveshaft? Or the small shaft that goes through the center of the differential gear?

It sounds like you have missed the centre pin for the diff. I'ts about 10mm long and stepped either side.

It's take the diff apart again - and look for the pin ;-) Let us know how you get on

Certainly something missing or in the wrong place. One close check of the manual should tell you whats wrong.

The gears in that gearbox can take serious abuse, my brushless midnight pumpkin, which uses the same gears, has had no gear problems with a motor that does over 45000 rpm

Hi guys, thanks for all of your help. You were all correct, it was ME!! It ended up being the spacer that I had forgotten to put in! It seems to have passed its vigarous test drive since being put back togther, so all is well :)

So can you upgrade the motors in the Hornet/Lunchbox then without damaging the cars/gearboxes? :)

I think the Hornet would flip over instantly if I upgraded the motor hehe

Yes :)

The gears are extremely over sized for the cars weight, so can handle just about ANY motor you can install. My castle creations 5700 kv brushless motor would wreck the gears in most buggies and small trucks, but as the gears in the old hornet/lunchbox gear boxes are so huge, they are able to withstand such power.

Just make sure good ball bearings are installed, as the plastic bushings would wear out quick with fast motors.

We really should video the speed difference between my 17t Lunchie and your brushless Pumpkin sometime...!
