I'm looking to get some info for a friend. He recently acquired 2 AYK Racing Magnum 360L motors. They are both in motor tubes and look to be in mint (possibly even unused) condition. Thanks to the pictures on Darryn's Retro RC page I found that the 360L came with the Bobcat and the Buffalo, but could offer him very little other info.

They looked just like my Kyosho 550 cans, and doing a little research it seems that AYK and the LeMans series motors followed the same Number plus a letter (or two) designations. I was wondering two things:

1) Does anyone know the specs on the 360L?

2) How much do these go for these days?

Thanks!!!!

2 friends an I bought a pair each from Darren, about 8 years ago. They put them in their E-max's, that went like REALLY FAST (what's wrong with h e l l, it's ok to print it in the bible? B) ) for 2 or 3 runs, then threw windings.

One of the surviving ones got put in a Stampede, and on a heavy landing, bent the shaft, between the com and the laminations... I guess long distance between bearings and a heavy armature. Another melted it's end bell, under a foam sock.

I, how ever, glued my windings (old slot car trick) and put them in my TXT, and have been there ever since.

So, if you don't put them on 14 volts, they are a good motor.

They are a LeMans 360 PT, retuned by the Dunn brothers. They are a 19x2 550, ballraced and adjustable motor. If you get it, be prepared to fit another end bell. the AYK retrofitted unit has tiny solder tabs that snap off with the weight of good size wire hanging on it.

As for how fast?... Well, my TXT, lined up with a Clod and another TXT running Magnetic Mayhems... Smoked the both of them.

Go to my showroom and see the action photos, it performs quite well. It would not be that fast in a buggy, for it is a 550, and 19 turn (equ. RPM's to a 23 turn 540) but in something with Blackfoot wheels or bigger, or a Tamiya Hummer where you need torque and RPM... Good choice.

B.M.T.- Thank you for the info. The motors he has are actually bushed and it seems to be higher than 19 turn. I have some LeMans 360 series motors and we're going to compare. I'm wondering if there was a time that the Magnum 360L was based on the 360ST motor??

Once we get together and compare, I'll get back to you. I'll try to get some pics too.

Thanks again!!! :(

No probs. Mine have a satin black, tubular can, with a separate gold mounting face, like the PT. I'll check to see if there is a figure I forgot from the designation markings... Hmmm, 360LB is sounding familiar.

If they are 360ST's, they'd be fixed and have a pressed can (one piece) and 22 turn. That's what became the Mega 360, then Magnetic Mayhem. But, the latter two have stronger magnets.

for the meaning of the numbers: they are supposed to indicate the 'normal' runtime in seconds with at 1200mah batterypack.

Don't know at which gearratio that'd be :)

So now that you're a dad you have time to dredge up old threads??? :)

LOL I'm staying with my parents in law in Japan.

The baby sleeps between the feeding times which leaves me lots of time and very little to do other than walk the dog.

Maybe I'd better concentrate on jobhunting instead of RC
