Don't really want to splash out on 4ch foolishness and just want to use my High Lift as a proper beater. If I use a standard 2 channel set up obviously I can't change gears on the fly but was wondering if I should lock the gear to 2nd? Also will it, by default be on 2nd or do I have to do something?

Thoughts welcomed

It sits in second by default cos that's where your left channel stick is at rest.

So you shouldn't need to lock anything in the tranny.

If your not going to use the tranny you might as well pull it out and stick somthing else in. Then you can sort the appauling ground clearance out and really have some fun.

LOL- love the detailing on the guy as well. So is that a custom gearcase?

Custom Made by me! No not really. Look Closer and dont tell the purists!

Scorcher Gearbox. Mated to a Tarxxas Transfer box.

Loads of clearance, and it runs great too. a proper Beater.

Love it! Guerilla mods. Lovely car mate- bet it's a laugh!

It runs over pretty much anything.

It's even better now i four linked the front, also slid the tranny back just a touch and relocated the steering servo.

It's exactly how i want it now.

time to build something else off the wall now!.....

Well neils is ok if you dont mind fiddling about.....be lazy like me and just slap in a rc4wd r2 trans ;) You could then also get the 4 link kit and a different body!

This is my best scaler so far (well it will be if i ever finish it...) - recently played with the dampers, softened them so its more like a droop set up and its now unstopable in the bed crawling arena :)

blakeatron- a man after my own heart. Where can I buy the 4 link and gearbox? Anything I need to know etc..?

Could be the answer for me :)

Yes. It's easy to use the High-Lift with a two-channel radio. I'm nowadays waiting to receive the Xtals for my three-channel radio gear. In the meantime, I tested the High-Lift using a regular Futaba 2CH and I lock the transmission by using a piece of wire in the gear I want to. I'll start using the tranny anyday, but this is an easy way to test how the truck runs.

Enjoy your High-Lift. It really is a wonderful Tamiya model.

Most simple and lazy way to sort out the ground clearance issue is to just make some plates and raise the gearbox up a bit. I have some plans somewhere I think, Mine where modifided to move the box back as well to fit in my race truck but you will get the idea from the picture below.

Thanks to everyone who helped on this. Blakeatron yours is the route I would take but its a good $200 US or so!Plus the guy with the 4links can't make them anymore.

What's the deal with the steering servo relocation- is it worth doing anyway or not really?

I want to 4 link it just looks too much fun!

4 linkng the front is quite time consuming, and quite hard to get right. On my 350 runner I only 4 linked the rear which has made a fantastic difference.

PM me your email and i can send over the details i downloaded to do it - using only kit parts and about 10" of m3 rod.

Also the stock steering is set up to be easy to adapt to 4ws with 1 servo. Due to this there is a lot of slop when running in front steer. So locating the steer servo next to the shift servo does away with an extra link and 2 angles, giving you more direct/responsive steering.
