Today the following happened to my E-maxx:

Plugged in two fresh 7 cell intellect 4600 nimh batteries turned on the ESC & POW - they went up in smoke right where the 7th cell is soldered ! LOTS of smoke too (not sure if this is because I foolishly sprayed out the motors above them with motor spray)

Drove the e-maxx hard with the second set and snapped the rear shock tower into two pieces (luckily $7 at the LHS and I'll be ack in business)

Stripped the steering servo in the Twin Detonator Carbon Racer ($30 at LHS and already repaired)

What a day :) !

Ahhhhh. At last, you broke something :) . But for sure you had a blast.

Those shock towers are really prone to breaking. I am on my 3rd one now.

Hey - that's good news - I think :) ! Have you had any bad luck with batteries exploding - I've read a few spots online that people think the ESC is doing this ? It seems to work fine now though :P ? Now, I've got to order another pair - I'll try and keep it on its wheels when I swap out the shock tower - that should help !

So far. Mine (7 cell Duratrax 4200) is still going strong. I read some few incident where the 7th cell is soldered short due to amp draw. But yours is a different case. I was about to think it is the ESC's fault, but you mentioned it is running good on another set of batteries. Where did you get these batteries? Maybe you can get some replacement.

Yeah, most of my bad landings (rear lid flat on the ground) causes the famous rear shock tower breakage. Lately, I am having fun jumping my E and starting to level and land on all 4 tires. But of course...you still have those belly side up occasions. So, I suggest re-inforcing your rear shocks with stranded wires and zip ties. It held up great on my last 2 bashing session:

So, start wrenching and have fun again!

Those pics are from 2 different bash dates. it is really hard to drive and get some action shots of your own :) .
