G'day,

Some Mardave questions that I hope someone can answer...

The wheels in the Mardave Meteor kit are red. And the shocks are also red.

However on the box, the car has white wheels and black shocks. I think the box picture looks better.

1. Does anyone know if white wheels and black shocks were ever available? Would I be nuts to consider painting them? (would the paint wear off?)

2. Also, the car on the box has different decals (more of them plus some sponsor logos) to what comes in the kit. Were the decals in the box photo ever available?

3. Lastly, is the original body for the Mardave Meteor made of hard plastic? (The version of the kit I have seems to have been modified for the New Zealand/Australia market, and as such has a Frewer polycarbonate body in the kit, instead of the original body. There is even an A4 sheet from Frewer explaining that this was an intentional modification of the kit to differ it from the English version.)

Any information appreciated!

cheers,

H.

No, the wheels and shocks were only available in red. You can paint them, just make sure the wheel is cleaned first and use something designed for plastic.

The only decals that came with the kit was the small sheet of Meteor logos. To replicate the Meteor lettering on the box picture you would want a sheet of letraset rub down lettering - no kidding. The sponsor logos were from a generic sheet of logos Mardave made for their long defunct 1/8th stock car.

Yes, the original came with a narrow ABS body. Here shows what it looked like when you had cut it out, and the complete included sticker sheet. It was a long time before a lexan body was offered as an option here in the UK.

Thanks Terry, much appreciated advice and info.

New to the Meteor, and I've just written to Mardave to see if I can get an original body (better shape than the Frewer one). I've heard they might still stock it (but won't be holding my breath).

cheers,

Mardave has recently changed ownership and I dont think he has any old stock, I did try to find out if he had any Meteor and Apache shells without luck.. if you manage I would be interested in a shel too.

Biggus - Chris from Mardave wrote back to me, and said not only are there no shells, but no molds anymore either.

So the rumours I'd heard were too good to be true :o

If anyone has a spare Mardave Meteor shell (I only need the body part, unpainted - not the wing) please let me know.

cheers,

H.

Chris at Mardave reckoned he could do me an LWB Meteor shell but only in ABS as he'd gone the mold for it.

I feel a vac molding machine coming on. I am going to need a new shell. Watch this space.

November 2007,Chris Wilko reckoned he could do an LWB Meteor shell in ABS,but not in lexan. He also had the moulds for the standard Meteor shells too.

He'd not got moulds for any wheels though, suspecting they'd been skipped somewhere along the line.

My man at work that races Ministocks and hotrods knows the guy that owned Mardave before Chris did and wonders if he's got any of the Meteor moulds.

Wonder if Chris Wilko just can't bothered to make bits for Meteors because he wants to concentrate on the 1/12th hotrod/banger stuff???,they'd done some new Apache/Marauder drive rubbers the other week though,so folks must have asked enough for 'em.

Anyway Mark, talking of vacforming, have a shufty at this:
