Hi guys n gals,

I have just received a beaten up Marui Galaxy off ebay that is need of restoration. The trouble is i'm not sure what parts are missing etc. Can anyone help with what I may or may not need? Some parts are broken etc but it will be a great project. Does anyone actually own one? Are they fast / good to drive etc?

If anyone knows of a manual I could get my hands on i'm sure that would help!

Marui models were great and I am also in the process of restoring a Ninja (my first childhood car!).

Many thanks in advance everyone ;)

Ahh The Galaxy..

My first R/C car. Well I can tell you the Ninja and Samuarua are far better than the Galaxy which was a up dated Hunter. Ok the gearbox is a BIG problem or more to the point the Idler gear strips out so quick.

I can remember only getting a couple runs before it started to click (slip). After a lot of striped gears a managed to buy a brass gear which solved the problem. It was light and handled pretty well for buggies of

that era. The speed controller was a big problem too. I ended up putting a ESC which was a huge expense back than. Good Luck the 4WD buggies were a lot better as they lerned from there mistakes.

Yes i'm going to stick an ESC in for sure, have one waiting. The trouble is that without an instruction manual i'm not sure what else is currently missing from the car. Any ideas where I may be able to source one from? Better still would be to find it on a PDF format?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :P

Hi There

I just "finished" restoring a Hunter, which basically is a Galaxy with different shock setup. The car was destined to be a runner, but after a lot of work in the resto and getting knowledge of the internals, I figured out it wouldn't be worth it to be honest.

The rear single a-arm suspension setup is sub-standard, although robust, and the current pulled by the motor varies so much given the angle of the arms that the conclusion is the U-joints system is very inefficient. The Transmission looks also very fragile (as confirmed above). The tires on mine, although looking ok, are actually dry-rotten... And then again the Marui plastics don't have that good a reputation for holding up agains the effects of time.

I don't dare running it - there has been to much work going in the resto, and I know I will be disappointed at the first turn of the wheels in the dirt anyway. It still is an entry-level racer from 1984... Looks really awesome, though ;)
