Hey y'all,

I can't find the date of release for this kit, named KING HAULER. Anybody in the know? Also, what model is it, Kenworth or Peterbilt?

Thanks in advance and y'all have a GREAT weekend!

Hiya UK!
I LOVE your avatar! I saw it the other day. Awesome model. Anyway, the King Hauler is a highlight in the 1994 Tamiya catalogue I have, but none seems to know the date of release. Well, is it a Kenworth or not? Last night I was watching a 1978 Italian movie with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Bud was driving a truck that was almost identical to the King Hauler, silver color but with stripes just like the KH's. It was a Kenworth though.

I've heard from some where King Hauler is not exactly the same as the actual make, whether is Kenworth or Peterbuilt, because of licensing agreement, similar to the re-release Wild Willy cannot call is a jeep.

Regardless if the above is true, the King is the grand daddy of the big rigs, is not the most modern looking but is the only one that I would buy. Is Royality in my book, while the rest is just celebraties.

Think it was Tamiya's way of avoiding licensing fees from Kenworth and Peterbilt. I think the KH actually fits the Kenworth more as the lights are mounted on fenders rather than off stalks.

Thanks for the kind words

I had this discusion with friends some years before and we found out nearly the same as on the link above.

Globeliner: International

Knight Hauler: Freightliner Coronado

King Hauler: this one should be a White or Western Star

Hanks Truck Pictures

This Site is a good place to find anykind of truck pics

I think is listed in Tamiya's 25th? or 30th? anniversary guide book, where it list the month and year the model was released. If only I can find the book and let you know.

Your idea led me to tamiyabase, and the earliest guidebook that I could find the King Hauler featured on is the one from 1996.

Must be from 1996 then.

Anyway, here's the image:

I always thought they were older than that. Never the less one of tamiyas finest achievements

To my taste, the King Hauler, Hummer, and the Jeep Wrangler (or any of the XC-based vehicles for that matter) must really be the best model cars from their RC line released in the 90's decade.

Its in the 1994 guide book on page 55.

I would love a Globe Liner and a King Hauler, but both would have to be modified to replicate 1:1 versions.

I cant stand the ugly grille on the globe liner, but the rest of the tractor is absolutely gorgeous. Same with the king hauler, the front lights

look weird, and would hugely benefit from aftermarket stalks off the radiator grille and twin or singular rounded headlights :)

I have always wanted to modify the front guards, lights, and bumper of my Knight Hauler to suit the 2003 Freightliner Coronado it was based on :(

Hi Neil!

1994!?

Well, I remember having that book years ago, but my memory doesn't bring any King Hauler back. Gonna check that one right away.

By the way, one thing that I like from the King Hauler is that you can customize it a bit to make it look like Will & Sonny's tractor truck from the awesome mid-70's Movin' On series. You ever seen that one? The main theme song was performed by the GREAT Merle Haggard. It was so freakin' cool!

The intro:

Yeah I have the '94 but not the '93 so couldnt tell you if its in there. It isnt in the '92 with the manta ray on the front.

No I havent seen that series, looks like something I would like to watch though! :)

It's the 1994 Guide, you're right. And I was wrong. I had the 1992 Catalog, not even an RC guide.

So yes, the King Hauler must have been first released in 1994!

Thanks for pointing that out, Neil.

Well, you certainly deserve a cookie for that! :)
