Tamiya needs a world car that can satisfy the European, Asian and North American markets and avoid paying huge licensing fees.

Which car model to pick? Well your guess would be as good as mine. To get around the licensing issue. Maybe Tamiya should do what the States National Rifle Association did when it was illegal to sell full automatic weapons in the market. The mfg seperately sells you the full auto conversation kit, while the gun itself only comes in semi-auto. In Tamiya case, say it decided to market the new Porsche 911 Turbo S. The kit or box art would be close but not exact like the turbo by changing thoe rear spoiler, the grill, lights, side mirror (like the re-release wild willy) etc... but inside the kit or as a seperate option buy, one can buy the correct parts to make the none exact Porsche to an exact Porsche.

Do able or the international copy right / trade mark got that play covered already? :)

What about makeing/marketing the shell as a body only then reproducing things like mirror spoilers/wings grills as add ons?would that get round the licensing laws?

I think the body companies have tried everything. Thats why most of them are out of business. One way they already tried to get around it, Is like if they wanted a "Bud Light" car. they would make one decal say "Bud" and another decal say "Blight" and the customer would cut off the B on Blight and slap them together. I'm not giving up!. I'll find a reasonable way around it,,,,,,,,,,,Or just make a small amount for my Tamiya Club Bro's only. I'm not to scared to go forward the companies usually tap you on the shoulder and warn you before they spend all kinds of money to sue you. I have been Another option I may have is to Ship them from Mexico with a partner. Full steam ahead! nothings gonna stop me.

Even the big companies have problems. Proline produced a VW Baja Bug based body for monster trucks but shortly after production ceased and it wasn't due to low sales. ;) I suspect due to HPI having a range of VW Bug shells meaning they are likely to have an exclusive licence for use in r/c. Proline made the Toyota Landcruiser body which was really popular, until their licence ran out and they could produce no more. Strangely enough the Proline Bushwacker that followed a few months later bears a strong resemblance to the Landcruiser :)

And the Bugatti Veyron was made by Chevron Models.

well the starion one is easy, just call it a starquest!

and put the 83 starion style hood/bonnet on it, or a cowl scoop like a 69 Z28 camaro.

So I got to check out my almost complete "Trail Finder" !!!!!! looks so sweet. My sculptor is putting the finishing touches on it!. He is amazing "and he better be for the price!" Very Sweet looking ride!

I add a 2e vote for the Beamer 6 series :)

I don't know the production "max size" , but of course making money is a target.

Produce some 1/6'the scale offroad body's for a decent price, and you will be running

to keep up with demand.

Blam! still much to be done. Smoothing, hood contour, louvers, grill. and more I'm sure, Slowly buy surely!, Also the rear wheel flare will be changed

Illacrew, it's great to see you're actually going through with this and not just talking about it. The former happens all too often on internet forums!

I've said this before, but I might as well repeat it; I'd love to see a Jeep M715 body. However, I don't know anyone else who'd be too thrilled about a Jeep M715, so that probably would work for you.

Another set of bodies I'd like to see are some of the wild Hot Wheels body designs. They may not be realistic, but I still think it'd be awesome to see them perched on top of a touring chassis.

EDIT: I had to add this one, it's one of my very favorite body designs:

I'm not sure if licensing could become an issue, but if Pro-Line can pull a complete rip-off of the Halo Warthog and get off scott-free, it might be feasible.
