Hibernaculum 933 Posted July 9, 2008 G'day, Said this before I'm sure, but performance doesn't concern me much when it comes to appreciating old buggies. Nice to know if they performed well or won races. But I think most people collect out of a personal love of the look of certain cars, or a general nostalgia for having owned them in the past, not because they won major titles etc. So, with this in mind (and probably had this topic a hundred times before, but let's have it again anyway. )..... What do you think are purely the best looking vintage buggies of all time? Me...(limited to top few only - very hard to choose)... Tamiya - Sand Scorcher - Frog - Hotshot - Hornet (I could continue easily, but I'll stop there) Kyosho - Tomahawk - Progress - Gallop MkII Marui - Samurai - Hunter Others - AYK Viper - Mugen Bulldog II - Radio Shack Golden Arrow - Nikko Dandy Dash - Hirobo Zerda From an aesthetic standpoint, all of these buggies really impress me for one reason or another. I also think that sometimes you need to see one in the flesh, before you can truly appreciate how cool it looks. Certainly the case for me with the Dandy Dash. (Other times, you might find a buggy does not look as good in reality, as it did in the pictures.) Thoughts? cheers, H.
Illacrew 0 Posted July 9, 2008 I have always loved the rc10 gold pan and always will!.
TA-Mark 195 Posted July 9, 2008 For me it would have to be the ones that looked like real buggies. When you see photos in the showrooms of some of the buggies, and you have to look hard for a body pin or some other item out of place to distinguish it from a 1:1 buggy, this is where the best looking realistic buggy is for me. Tamiya: Rough Rider Sand Scorcher Sand Rover Super Champ Fast Attack Vehicle Wild One After this they all seem to have turned into areo style buggies with little resemblance to a real buggy and futuristic looks or built with it's intended function in mind (lots of driving). Some of the above mentioned vehicles in showrooms are brilliant and a real credit to their builder. When I need to look twice, they have done a top modelling job, even better when there is a video of it running. There is one Wild One that opened my eyes to 'realism' buggies and that was of a Blue Wild One, you could have mistaken it for a 1:1 playing at the beach. I can't find the video now and lost the one I downloaded but it's one of my favourites. Cheers, Mark

mongoose1983 3335 Posted July 9, 2008 1. Sand Scorcher 2. Sand Rover 3. Will the Egress fit the vintage bill? The Egress is a beauty! And... oh yeah, the RC10 Gold Pan is my guilty pleasure.
GRIGGY 0 Posted July 9, 2008 For me it has to be the Holiday Buggy. Also think the Wild one looks good but prefer them in a different colour & without all the decals.
Lonestar 1 Posted July 9, 2008 Will limit myself to 10 "only" 1- Boomerang - low and mean... and one of my first loves 2- Marui Ninja - 'nuff said 3- AYK Viper - black rollcage with gold shocks... yummy! 4- Kyosho Javelin - rollcages rule 5- Wild One - perfect balance, low slung, and apparent shocks, looks real! 6- Grasshopper - there's something about the hopper that makes it special... prolly the padlatrack and the sand buggy harmony! 7- AE original RC10 - with KC lights 8- Marui Samurai - for the hi-tech looks and these fantastic pseudo-magnesium wheels! 9- Kyosho Assault - like a scorpion, but with that nice hanging engine in the rear 10- BigWig - looks "different", so over the top, but such a fantastic testimony of what the 80's were about - the "Hair Rocker" of RC Paul
Lemming 48 Posted July 9, 2008 Avante is my favourite just from the mechanical look of the suspension and the curves on the bodyshell... Proper looking one would have to be the Rough Rider.

Saito 5 Posted July 9, 2008 The problem with vintage Tamiyas in particular is they all look great. My vote goes to the Avante however. I know, I know, its a spaceship buggy but what a looker she is! The body is lean and taught, beautiful yet minimal. Painted in boxart metallic blue (one of Tamiya's best hues) and fitted with that detailed cockpit/driver assembly, its stunning. Add those neat cam-lock wheels and all that lovely aluminum and FRP and you've got one sexy buggy.
94eg! 834 Posted July 10, 2008 As a kid I would say Vanquish straight up. Unfortunately that leaves out the Egress & Avante from the #1 spot. My answer was to combine all 3!!! #1 - Vanquish Evolution:
