I want to use the original wheels from my Hilux but not in the original black chrome colour - anyone got any tips for removing the chrome effect?

I will be priming and painting them afterwards...

A fellow TC member posted somwhere that if you use nail polish remover you can remove the dark of the chrome and leave it as the original silver chrome. That way you don't need to paint it at all. I think I will do it sometime, but first I need to find someone to go and buy that for me. I wonder how many of you would go to the broad's store and ask for such thing saying that itreally is for your model truck?

:) well, take your truck with you and show them or ask your girlfriend, fiancee or wife... And if you don't have one, get one or dress like a lady and get some nail polish :P

Ha, ha, ha, ha... Actually, I restarted my Tamiya thing after cutting with Karin, last January. Hot broad indeed, but couldn't help the thought of how many nice trucks I could have got with all the money that went to badword with her. :P

Thanks guys! :)

I do actually still want to paint them - but nail polish remover sounds like a good start! Cheers!

if you want to remove the chrome totally just squirt them with EasyOff caustic oven cleaner

the chrome will disappear faster than your $$ when dating a high-maintenance lady

Hi I am planning on getting the black chrome roll cage for my hilux body but I am worried about the nail polish remover...just wanna know how many successful tries and how many failures out there?

Would the remover remove just the dark part of is it actually removing a thin layer of the chrome?

Hi it just removes the chrome tint not the chrome , i did all my yota bits never damaged any chrome. theres alot on here used this method and on other sites with great results, its easy to do its not like stripping paint from a shell it takes seconds to wipe the stuff on & wipe after with a clean cloth. its that easy..

craig  just make sure its acetone free remover you are using........
