Motor Skimming

Hi all im just woundering if i start to run motors like the tz,rz,bz or dirt tuned how often would i have to have them skimmed, i generally just run pretty stock, i do like my sport tuned though, i also run yokohoma 13t single sometimes, ive never had anything skimmed and im guessing it would be cheaper to replace the motor.

any help and advise on this one be cool.

There is no set rule as to how often you need to get them skimmed as it really does depend on the motor (brand), how it is used, what wind it is and what type of brushes it has in it.... For some it may only take 10 runs, and for others you may get 30, but at some point in your motors life, the brushes will wear out, and the performance will drop off..

Cost?? I would guess at $10 - $20 (5-10 UK pounds) should get your comm skimmed, and a new set of brushes..

Thanks for the reply, as im not sure about this sort of thing, that helps alot. can anyone suggest ideas where i can get my motor skimmed etc when i need it, i live in rotherham (nr sheffield) south yorkshire, england. and how much it costs, just trying to find out.

modelsport in otley, (not a million miles from you) skim motors for a fiver or do a full motor restoration for a tenner. never had it done myself but knew they did it.

thanks for the info, yeh i know modelsport used to work out in otley and have visited them a few times.

I'm going to the Clumber meet in August, I have a comm lathe and will skim your motors for you if you want.
