I was talking with another list member and was lamenting on how the focus of the topics have really changed over the years. When this club was first started, the emphasis was on vintage. Now it seems a lot of topics cover what ever the newest TT Durga DF doo is. '

So the big question is what is your focus, what makes you come here? I'm curious see what others interest is

For me, it's

new and old three speed trucks

SRB's

New and old Tamtechs

fun trucks like the Lunchbox, Midnight Pumpkin and WW2

I come for pretty much the same reason as yourself shodog.

My main interest is Tamiya's pickup and monster trucks, vintage or modern - however there really isn't much going on with those on this forum, so I tend to look at sites like scale4x4rc and rcmt too.

What always has bought me back here almost every day since I joined, is the diversity of the members, friendly atmosphere and to help out other members if I can.

My interest is mainly vintage but I do have a hopped up TT01 that I use for bashing. I have a habit of buying vintage Tamiyas from Ebay with the intension of restoring them & running them but when I've finished a car I then decide that they look too good & don't want to risk damaging them so they usually end up on the shelf. I currently have five runners & all except the TT01 are vintage.

Started with going mad, buying all old cars i could find :D usually in the vintage blackfoot series,

but.. "anything old & Tamiya" would do.

Then, as funds allowed it got more & more 1/14 rigs, from stock to custom

Then also the 1/16 armour kicked in.

Still like to buy recent kits, what got my intrest ( E30 BMW, the c-group re-releases, the tamtech onroads.. to be honest "anything goes" ;)

The last 2 , still have my full intrest , as weather is still good i focus on the 1/6 petrol bigscale's

now.

When it is getting colder again, back to the tanks & trucks :P

Looking forward , if fund allow, to go deeper into the rigs "scene" and get into hydrolic building machines. ( bulldozer or raupenbagger ).

Hi Sho!

My interest was, and remains, most pre '92 models.

But part of the interest in the forum for me is helping other members (new & old) with their questions and thoughts on cars and projects.

But for cars post '92 till the present, 3speeds and re re's excepted, I have little interest of knowledge to participate with.

My feeling is as long as we vintage fans keep posting up experiences, projects, and enthusiasm for the vintage models we can 'infect' :D;) newer members with the enthusiasm for the vintage models and thus keep the forum and interesting place for ourselves.

The less we post the more we risk the forums appeal shrinking for us.

My thoughts. :P

We are having a similar discussion here in the Kyosho section. What makes me come here are vintage buggies from about 1983-1993 of any brand. Though, I do own several "modern" buggies including an RC10B4, Ultima RB5 & MRC GV2. 2wd or 4wd, it doesn't matter. :D

I don't really have any connection to the 3speeds and SRBs so I may be in the minority. But I love the newer big ticket Tamiya items such as the F-350, 1/14 scale haulers and CR-01 crawler.

Anyways, I think we do need to post more, especially our projects. For me, building buggies from an old broken down beater and turning it into a vintage racer with period hop-ups is fun and I like to share my "hard" work.

My interest used to be in RWD and M-Chassis cars. I needed a manual for a M02L to figure out what the stock pinion was, and I found out there was actually a Tamiya community... That's how I came here.

My interest has widened though. I still love the concept of the M-chassis cars "Small cute looking speed devils," but I now also have interest in rally cars. I like scale looking vehicles, and combined with offroad driving it makes a lot of fun.

I also have a Scorcher. I first didn't like them, but I got inspired and interested when I saw what creative things people made out of them. I still don't really know how it drives due to problems with the electronics, but I finally was able to test it again a few days ago with it's new shoes, and it rocked :P

I'm interested in certain types of buggies, although I don't own one (Yet - If my scorcher turns out to be a lot of fun there will be many buggies or vintage rides to choose as a next in the collection).

I'm not very interested in competition cars yet, I am probably gonna save a Schumacher Mission 2 from a life of dust from a friend. If I like the car there may be a box with TRF on my doorstep soon ;)

I'm also not really interested in crawlers and 3 speeds. It's not that I don't like them, I really like the creations of people like dready, the cars look amazing but I don't have any real climbing terrain to drive it on, so it will just be a boring, flat and slow drive.

So the conclusion is that as long as it looks scale and is fun to drive, I will probably like it :P

I come here to learn things about the hobby. Although I have had R/C cars of and on for about 15 yrs its only the last 3yrs or so i have put genuine time and money in. I don't know a lot about R/Cing really and splaces like this are a mine of info. I also like telling people about things i have found out that maybe new or just old things revisited, but there is always people to take on and impart information which can only be good for the longevity of the hobby.

Hi Shodog,

I mainly come on Tamiyclub, for Vintage Tamiya's Sand Scorcher & Hilux. But i do come on for advise on the newer cars too, the only new Tamiya's i have are XC Pajero, NIB CR-V, TXT-1 & TT-01 Skyline R34. For me at the moment im looking for help on the Sand Scorcher hop ups but not much. Im still going through all the old post, i've come across one from yourself about it.

Tried to keep it short lol

My wife calls me obsessive compulsive about R/C anything. She could well be right.

I read all the posts about new and old with the same enthusiasm. Learn lots about cars I've never seen in the flesh and probably never will. Been R/C crazy since my dad bought me my first Taiyo Porsche 935 in the late 70's (Yes I still have it). The only R/C I've never been real interseted in is Helis, mainly because controlling them still alludes me, nice to look at, but I'll only break it if I get my hands on it.

I do have a soft spot for the builds where I need to look twice to see if it's a real 1:1 or a model. This I think is my draw to Tamiya as they are by far the most realistic to scale models out there. Most of them being in the first 50 released, would love to own a few but explaining the 'I Need' to the wife is hard when the expense is so great. I would have to drive them too... more expense.

Found my way to TamiyaClub when looking for ways to make the DF01 stronger and the info was here, and lots of it. Nice friendly atmosphere has kept me here.

Evolution is going to happen, the mix of old and new is great. Tamiya is still going strong and it's because of enthusiasts like us that keep buying and loving their products. Heaven would be waking up in the likes of Hong_Kong's model room or the Tamiya warehouse with free reign.

My 2 cents, Cheers, Mark

Hi Jim I come because I live out in the boondocks (country)and I have been out of the hobby for years there was never anything like this in the early 80's not to mention computers and the net ,I like to get advice on what Iam doing and to see what other ppl are doing I like vintage but they are hard to get nowdays unless you have a pocket full of cash (wish I had brought 20 FAV back in 1984 only $99 back then but I was silly and young did not see the value back then) .I aslo come for the atmosphere as I live out in the country and all ppl here want to do is go shooting Roo's and Foxes and most are Farmers who spend their spare time at the local pub (I dont drink to much medication).I like to see what other people have built and look at the detail that goes into a build.Does it bother you that times have changed ? or just interested in why we all come back and talk a lot of rubbish at times ? .But mainly its friendly people that I find here that makes me come back everybody is so helpfull I guess we are the new generation although Iam 40 but lets never mention that again..anyways enough ranting ..Take care mate I look forward to viewing your builds .Cheers

For me the club started just after I was getting back into RC, so it was just incredibly useful at that stage. Then I got more into the collecting side of it - and got more into the vintage side. But, I also like to keep up (a bit) with the more recent stuff to...

Fun.

I come here to learn about all things Tamiya, and to socialize with a lot of interesting folks.

Sure, I have some vintage stuff and would like to be lucky enough to own some real prizes one day. I also take advantage of the new stuff coming out, because let's face it, if somebody hadn't done that with the original models, this club wouldn't exist and they wouldn't be vintage. They would just be forgotten. So new stuff is fine by me.

I know that most people here love Tamiya models and can offer any advice I might need on any model, new or old. Besides, I can look at what other people have, and read their opinions and stories about all kinds of stuff in the RC world. Especially Tamiya.

Where else could you get this amount of institutional / product knowledge? Retailers don't have the time or interest. Manufacturers don't sit around and chunter on about past issues or products.

Viva Tamiya Club.

Re-releases. Everyday I come on here hoping to see a thread in caps screaming that the FAV/Wild One/Boomerang/Avante/Sand Scorcher has been re-re'd.

That Scorcher re-re wind up thread by Netsmith still lives long in the memory!

A good thing about this club is that it got me interested in a lot of the modern Tamiyas, some of which are on my wish list...but mainly it's the 1980s stuff that I'm really passionate about.

I originally had many of many vintage cars and trucks, and that is all I originally wanted.

Now I am into Nitro's (Vintage or New) and I love crawlers.

I really don't have a set type of RC I come here for now. I see many RC's that interest me and I get them. If they are not what I thought they would be,

I just trade or sell them.

I think my lack of time, now I am back on a submarine, has me not restoring vintage cars as I used to do.

Someday i plan on getting back into restoring vintage RC's.

I originally came here because I dug my Boomerang out from under my sister's house and thought "Man, I loved this car. I wonder what it would take to get it going again?". I loved doing the restoration, and some of the guys on the forum helped me to find some vintage parts to finish it off. Then I ran it a few times and broke it a few times and realised that vintage parts can cost a fortune, even for a Boomerang.

From there I wondered how the hobby has progressed in the last 20 years or so, and decided to check out some modern Tamiyas. So, a TT-01, Baja King, DF02-MS and Durga have all been bought, built and bashed and I have come back here for advice about the modern stuff as well.

I really love the vintage stuff and I've spent hours looking through the photos of NIBs, New Built and freshly restored classics in all the show rooms. However, I can't really justify the expense of trying to own the old vintage stuff myself. I did make a $550 play for an Egress (my all-time favourite) on ebay recently, but just missed out. Even if I did manage to get my hands on some of the classics that I loved as a kid, they would only ever join my Boomerang as "light-use" runners, to enjoy some Nostalgia with little chance of breakage.

To sum up, I love the vintage stuff but the modern stuff is what I will be running with. So I will keep coming back to TamiyaClub for all the info I can get on both!
