Dumb question, but can you use Sport Tuned motors as a direct bolt into the clod? I know you can't used advanced timed motors, but not sure about the sport tuned.

Thanks

The only dumb question is one that goes unasked. There has been debate on whether there are two different Sports Tuned motors available (one 27 turn and one 23 turn). One thing is for sure, the one we get here in the states is 27T just like the stock silvercan. The U.S. Sports Tuned does indeed get its extra kick from being advanced making technically unsuitable for the Clod since one of the motors runs in reverse of the other. BTW, I see you're from Maryland (I'm from PA). Its nice to see another Tamiya RCer not only in the same country but on the same coast!

An email I got from tamiyaUSA said they weren't sure, but there was probably a degree or two of advanced timing, so it's not a good idea.

I'm probably going to try it anyway.

Oh yeah! I just raced possibly the last Maryland TCS race last weekend. Hope you were down.

Thanks for the help!

I use 540 black sport tuned in my supaclod!!!

Works no problemo...

But I want more speed in mine as i'm going to run it like a monster truck!

High speed in short course with jumps then stop and turn the other way!

But I don't wanna go brushless...

Any idea anyone?

I've just popped a pair of new Sport Tuned motors in my Bullhead, and I'm impressed.

Because they're standard stock you don't need to muck about with zero timing.

Its now got a bit more ooomph compared to silver cans  !

Can I use Dirt tuned off road 27T (#53929) in my clod?

No, the Dirt Tuned has a fixed endbell so you can't adjust the timing for the reversed motor.

What can I do to get my clod to run faster?
The usual ways, hotter motors, more voltage. You can go as wild as you want, the serious Clod racers use 11 to 14 turn motors and 8 cell battery packs. Of course you need one or two ESCs that can handle the motors to go with them.

I put 2 Traxxas Stinger motors in mine and it goes pretty well. B)

Thanks all for answers!!!

Do I need to trim the other or do they work as they are?

The Stingers are 540 size so they fit no problem. I used those because they're supposed to be zero timed. They didn't seem faster than sport tuned motors in single motor models I have, but I like them in the Clod.
