bought this at a bootsale at the weekend for a tenner, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. the seller reckoned it was mid-70's, and i can see its never been run. has all the instructions (that say printed in Japan), all the stickers, box ect... it has a rear diff, metal chassis, but i'm reluctant to take it apart!!!

pics are up in my showroom

well i plucked up the courage and took it apart this evening. seems to use a mabuchi 280-style motor, and has a circuit board for the electronics.

Asahi seem to have made a few sub hobby grade, or toy grade, R/C cars in that late 70s/early 80s period. From memory, I have also seen the brand name mentioned on various bits of radio gear or circuitry...possibly in conjunction with Acoms radios (could be wrong). Also seen the brand name alongside Atcomi, which was another brand name of toy R/C cars in the 80s. That's about all I can retrieve from the memory banks, sorry!

cheers,

H.

thanks guys!

i have seen the ACOMS name thrown around the net in conjunction with ASAHI, but ASAHI Corp. seems to be huge! wikipedia brought up around 15 sub-sections!

next thing to decide is whether to sticker it up or not....!!
