ok ive been going back and forth with these two.i now have a migraine.ive been thinking of getting in to the onroad stuff.i was looking at the swift and the tt01r chassis.alot of people on TC say the tt01 is ****.i will not be racing ,it will be purely for running on street or wherever.what do you guys think?what is the size difference with the bodies on?

Way size different, matey.

If you are just bashing, you will probably get more giggles from the TT, and the range of bodies and wheels is bigger.

If you were going to race, and your local has a M chassis class, I'd suggest go the other.

I bought a TT and sunk about $350 or more into it, to see what I could squeeze out of it (for 540 class racing) and I was bitterly disappointed.... Considering every other base model Tamiya tc would prove to be a complete sleeper with a little tuning, and annoy guys running the "better model". But for bashing around carparks and stuff, TT's are right at home.

The TT01 is a low end, beginners 4wd touring car.. If you were to compare it to a high end touring car, then you would discribe it as s**t, but everything has its place and purpose, and most people wouldnt go out and buy a TRF 416 to just bash around in the streets.. The TT01 is very suited to this task, and can be "hopped up" at minimal cost if the need arises, such if you decide to take up racing..

Because the TT01 is 4wd, it will handle quite well on rubber tyres, or could easily be set-up to drift, by locking the front diff (see terrysc's tutorial on polymorph) and fitting PVC pipe or drift tyres..

The M03 chassis is a front wheel drive chassis, and they are just fun to drive, especially when run or raced with other mini's.. Because they are only 2wd, they can be some what limited in what you can do with them, and where you can drive them.. The M chassis are physically smaller than a touring car, but in real life a mini or swift is smaller than an Audi TT or Skyline (just for example)..

As much as I love the (my) M03 Mini, I have to steer you toward the TT01 touring car, if for no other reason than that you have the option to run rubber tyres or to drift with it..

another vote for tt-01

i have both and love them ... but the m-03 is harder to drive and eats tires like crazy.

the tt-01 is extremely versatile for bashing, drifting, etc.

tires and bodies are TONS easier to come by for the tt-01 too.

TT01 is perfect for entry-level drifting, chassis is well balanced.

M03s aren't & can't.

(Yes i've tried - results are hilarious.)

Do you have a vid of it?

Anyway, I'd prefer an M03 because I simply love M-chassis cars. But you compare 2 very different cars with each other. The one has a regular wheelbase, width and 4WD, the other is short wheelbased, less width and FWD. It's more a matter of what drive (FWD, RWD, 4WD) do you prefer?

When you don't exactly know what you want to buy, always ask yourself: "How much can I/Am I willing to spend?"

Then ask yourself: "What kind of car am I looking for?" (In this case a 1:10 touring car from Tamiya I think)?

After that you should ask yourself: "What drive do I want my car to have?" (FWD, RWD, 4WD).

Also important to narrow the list of cars: "Do I want a new car (with spares still for sale) or a discontinued/older car?"

When you have done this, there will be a much smaller list of cars. You can then start looking at the cars that attract your interest. In this way you will remain with even less cars, and you have a few cars you can compare with each other

I would also say TT01.

I have had both & still got the TT01. I use my cars mainly for bashing with my mates & I remember trying to keep up with thier 4wd cars with my M chassis & was always really frustrated with the understeer & wheels spin. I sold my M chassis years ago & now run the TT01 when we go bashing on tarmac & I think it's perfect for that.

we dont have to limit the discussion to these two platforms.without getting into the expensive trf stuff what else is good?also i will probably be selling my freshly restored wild one to fund this new project.the m03 was appealing to me because it was real cheap and i would have money left over for hop ups.

Do you have a vid of it? :)

nah, its better in words ;) wierdest handling EVER

so i bolted some ABS tyres onto the M03

just imagine this... the moment you liftoff on throttle, it spins around 180deg and keeps going backwards

(dragbrakes are zero too)

ahh... maybe its the 4.5 brushless overpowering it ;)

so i bolted the ABS onto the SportTuned mini

...nup exact same behavior

m03 gets my vote, i had a tt01, spend loads on it and really disliked it to drive, no fun imho. thats only my opinions, couple mates i run with love their ones. i totally love my m03 thou, bags of fun to drive and takes loads of stick. its got a 15turn and a quality esc in and is a hoot!

I see that there is no chassis that's preferred above the other... So maybe I have another piece of advice... If you know someone (or several people) with a TT01 and/or M03, you could compare them to see what you like best, because as I said earlier, you can't really say what's a better chassis since they are so different from each other.

It's got to be one of each!! eBay seems full to bursting with Minis recently and there's usually TT-01s going fairly cheaply as they don't have much of a resale value. Best get a second hand one of each and enjoy them both.
