I just went to the hobby shop looking for a decal sheet and some paint, and ended up with this instead:

My wife's out of town, and I'm supposed to be saving money, not spending it... Luckily it was only $25 on clearance (at that price how can you not?). It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission, right?

Is $25.00!

Is shrinked wrapped!!! double bonus!

Is a.............. Ahhh by Tamiya!!!!

In 25 years it will worth $25,000.00, who saids RC is a bad investment don't know what they are talking about. Buy low, sell high.

It's not shrink-wrapped anymore.

Give me an hour or so, and it won't be NIB either. I don't do that.

Exactly, they are meant to be enjoyed, not a tool of envy. Big frog stamp for you.

I am on the brink of getting one of these next... I'll be interested to see your opinion.

Lucky sod.... they never have these on clearance at such a price down here in Oz..... most likely, if you were ever to find one, it'd be on clearance for $225...

At $25, buy lots!!!!!!

Well, it's built. It's almost embarrassingly easy to build for anyone who is used to more complicated cars. I could have done it without the instructions, I think. It's a very interesting piece of design work, though. Can't wait to see how it runs. A few early observations:

- It's HEAVY. I was wondering why the box weighed so much; now I know. This thing is a tank. It weighs more than my Hotshot! The axles are oversized, and all the plastic parts are really thick. So even though the parts count is low, there's a lot of mass there. But what's cool is that this means it's likely pretty indestructible, really nice for a beginner (or someone like me who likes to abuse cars). I'm guessing it will be slow, because of the weight and the 380 motor, but stable, because of the low CG.

- They went to great lengths to simplify the assembly process and reduce parts count. In typical Tamiya fashion, the body shell has several pieces that need to be attached with screws, but the body mounts are hidden and use no pins. Instead, the front uses a tongue that goes into a slot on the front bumper, and the rear has a really clever pin system that secures the shell with two little locking levers. In addition to no body pins, there are also no axle pins. The wheel hexes are splined, and made of aluminum, which also adds durability. The diff housings snap together without screws. It's a lot like the snap-together models you had when you were a kid.

- It looks too much like the Batmobile. And I don't think the decals are going to help. But I'll run it with the stock shell until it gets all smashed up, and then find something better looking.

i too couldn't resist these goofy looking cars.

mine burned up the motor on the 4th run though - something inside uses a grub screw and it came loose and destroyed the little motor, so i spent an hour or so messing with a gravel hound motor mount and now it has a 540 silver can.

it runs pretty well but isn't really fast, even with a 540 and 13t pinion. next stop: sport tuned motor. after that: sidewinder or ezrun 380 brushless???

I bought mine in Hong Kong for HK$90 (US$11.5 ). I bought it just for the tires.

Are the rims 12mm hex?. I almost bought one for the tyre/wheel combo so I could put 1.5"s (15") on a scale LandRover 90 I'm doing. Then I would of slapped my Mu low down wheels on it.

Crikey that's cheap!!! Too bad the Australian Tamiya importer is as good at providing these sorts of bargains as dingos are at child-minding.......

LOL funny you built it already, put it with your others on a shelf or where ever you put your builds ,Stash the box with the other and she wont know a thing,The car will blend in with the others

At that price the money wont even be noticed missing good hunting encourage the wife to go out of town more often

Great find ,Quick build ,Fast clean up of the workshop area and a nice big warm welcome to the wife when she gets home !!!

Cheers

Yes, they're 12mm hex. The rims are different offsets in the front and rear, though. The fronts are close to normal touring car offset, but the rears are much deeper.

As for hiding it, I wouldn't dream of it. For one thing, I only have 5 other cars (plus her Pumpkin), and this thing sticks out like a sore thumb among them. For another, we don't hide things. It just doesn't work. We can barely keep Xmas gifts a secret.

These are very under-rated cars but I don't know why. They are great fun for the money especially with a sport tuned fitted. They are heavy but it is possible to buy a lightweight prop which is 30g lighter than stock & lightweight gear shafts. I have these in mine and it gives my brother's Hot shot a run for its money. As for alternative shells...check out the pics of my current project.

I think the Panda Man was referring to when he was last overseas, as I wouldn't expect him to have any $25 NIB Tamiya kits available in this country.....

Treasure hunt would be nice, but there's not a lot of treasure about these days.... and you usually have to travel a bit. More treasure hunt fun going through the boxes in my hobby room - keep finding long-hidden bonus bits!!!
