340 $ ???????? Is it a "Guarantee-to-win-every-race-ESC" or what ? I wonder how many of these MrTamiya expects to sell ? I think Ill pass :D

Just like the previous Volac ESC (and Hot Bodies, Yokomo, Much More, and several others), it's just a rebadged KO Propo VFS-1. I'm just surprised KO is still bothering to crank these things out (and upping the price at the same time). Considering they are all fully programmable, there is really no difference from the original VFS-1 to the latest version, the Competition-3. I guess they just change the throttle profile and made it slightly lighter weight...

BTW: This new Volac ESC has an MSRP of $485 on TamiyaUSA.com. This is pretty absurd considering the rest of the world is moving to brushless.

FYI: You can regularly find KO VFS-1 ESCs for $75-$80 brand new in box on rctech.net. I know because recently quoted 4 different sales to purchase at this price from two different sellers. The original Tamiya version can be found on eBay for $110. Looks nice in a 415... :D

yeah, I couldn't believe it when I saw the price on those, surely they can't be selling very well? as 94eg! suggests, you can buy a really good dual standard brushed/brushless ESC and be future proof for that much!!!

Ah yeah, but it:

"Comes in a stunning metallic blue color"

LMAO. Thats one of the 3 key features.

I have blown up two of the original VOLACS. I now have a Hot Bodies Atsushi Hara Twister 2.2 Carbon which if I am not mistaken is the latest of the KO VFS-1 line and exactly what will be inside this new VOLAC.

Tamiya have got to be joking at that price - how will they ever sell even just one...? Oh wait, I know, usual Tamiya tactic - Manufacturer supported racing series where you have to use that specific ESC. My advice is don't bother (not that you were seriously going to consider it anyway)...

To the true die hard Tamiya fan and money is not object. They'll take 4 NIB, 1 for runner use, 1 for spare parts, 1 as shelf queen, and 1 for future sell on ebay.

The truth of the matter is that the TRF ESC contains 1/2 oz of pure gold, that is a good buy. :D

There is NO physical difference in ANY of the VFS ESCs. The Twister 2.2 is a VFS Competition 2 (not the latest 3). The only difference between it and the original "VFS Competition" ESC that you were blowing up, was the removal of the thermal overload protection and a remap of the throttle profile. Since all these values inside are adjustable via ICS, there have really been no new features since they originally came out. I would imagine they might up the quality of the FETs inside with each new batch, but that's only speculation...

BTW: I just realized that they original Tamiya Volac came pre-wired, and this new one does not. That is where your weight difference is coming from... :D

That's way too high indeed... But it happens to be that all tamiya ESC's are pretty darn expensive, and their CPR's they had were also quite pricy...So what else would you expect from Tamiya?
