Hi can anyone tell me what happend to SRM Racing?????

I bought a one way for my Optima in the late 80's and cost me around $120 here in Australia.

They seemed to be really big in the 80,s like Trinity and RPM.

I know they were UK based but thats all.

From what I can remember they had a huge aftermarket range of parts.

Thanks...

SRM Racing was just a hobby shop in Fareham, Hampshire, that started importing mainly CRP parts from the USA and repackaging them as their own brand. They grew enough to become a distributor for many US brands in the UK but as they concentrated specifically on the racing market when the aftermarket side of the hobby almost disappeared thanks to better kits needing less parts to be replaced to be competitive and IIRC Simon McRae the owner of SRM running into financial difficulties meant the company went under.

As the link above shows SRM added to their repackaged US parts with parts specifically for racing by selling their own range of hop up parts that had been made for them by a local engineering company called NJS Engineering Ltd. When SRM shut down this company started selling direct and is more familiar to us as RW Racing.

Thank you to both of you .

Sad to here they closed the doors.

I do have a full set of spur, final drive and pinions from RW Racing for the TA 01 02 series.

I guess these are rare now.

Was thinking of selling them..

Cheers Mark..

I remember Simon, i used to buy my parts from him at the shop in Fareham, it was up stairs and always had those bits you never knew you needed until you went in.

I also remember the day i went in to the shop to find him building one of the first RC10's (gold pan) i'd never seen anything like it and was amazed at how light it was.

There were some tyres that were really good too, MRC, i think it stood for Moulding Research Company, ah memories.

I'm sure i saw him working in the printing shop a few doors up from SRM after it closed, wonder if he's still into RC these days?

I have got a mint 1985 or 1985 catalogue from them. I must admit that I have underlined all the Schumacher CAT xls parts that I wanted to purchase.

I will see if I can get it scanned in.

Brings back memories of my early racing days.
