So, for top end racing, what make of kit would be best at about the £150-£200 mark? Excluding radio gear etc. I don't want to need to hop up the new kit much, and it must be very fast!

Also - any online contacts and shops selling kits would be much appreciated.

Thanks again for the help I've had so far in my quest

Take a look at the Colt Pro cars on www.mtroniks.net - Carbon everything, and what isn't carbon is alloy, complete with belt drive, ball diffs, oil shocks and under £200 complete with radio. Can be made very competitive without much more spend (just change the motor + ESC).

I would look at something other than the Colt, yup they look great but with a few fellow racers running them they are a little on the weak side, I would look at a second hand tc3, or losi xxx personally or maybe a Schumacher Mission.

If you fancy shaft drive you can pick up the latest Associated TC4 for £200 or the Yokomo MR4TC CGM for less than that. For belt drive I would go for an Xray T1 Raycer or a Losi XXX-S, both can be found below £200. All of these will be easily fast enough and require no hop ups at all to be competitive on the race track.

You will also need to buy a bodyshell for most competition kits, I would recommend you visit your local track and see what works there (the most common) and buy the same, it will probably be one of the Protoform range. While you are there check out what chassis the fastest drivers are actually using and what is the most common. The two fastest drivers at our club run a Losi XXX-S and an RCLab, but the most popular chassis are Xrays and Yokomos. If you buy a popular car you have more chance of getting a good setup for the track.

Good shops for competition touring cars are

http://www.dms-racing.com/orhttp://dcracing.co.uk DMS Racing especially sells the kits mentioned above well below RRP.

The earlier ones (plastic shock towers) are rather weak, but have found the latest "Pro" version to be almost indestructable, and parts very cheap if they do go bang. Just my comment though.

go to www.ballistichobbies.com they sell trf's chassis for 90usd.

Those are just a set of coloured carbon fibre chassis plates, not the complete car.

Only TRF chassis I can see is a TRF 414 for nearly $270. For $90 it is most likely to be two sheets of carbon fibre with maybe some fixings as Terry has said. Considering the hop ups you find on a TRF chassis, I doubt greatly you would pick up a NIB kit for $90.
