Gearing A Superstock Rz

Recommended Posts

I have a Superstock RZ in my TA-02 chassis. Mounted some HPI drift tires on it. Everything goes pretty well except for the gearing.

When driving the car normally the motor is not getting too warm with highest possible gearing (speed tuned, 25T): 6.44

When I start to drift the motor is getting a lot hotter, is 6.44 just too much for drifting or is the motor not strong enough ?

Drifting puts a bigger strain on the motor. If heat is going up, you may want to gear down (smaller pinion/bigger spur). This will also increase torque, and should make drifting easier. "Speed" tuned gears are probably the opposite of what you need for drift...

The super stock motors have considerable rpm. I use a TZ in my Vanquish with a 19T pinion, and it can still overheat with tough off-roading in warm weather....

Hi!

Normally, 6,44 is not problem for drifting with an RZ motor. Drifting with ABS tires my RZ handles 6,28 just fine! Go for high rpm, then you have more to control with. Good luck!
