I have a question for all you guys who like to take your trucks swimming. What do you do about the battery?

I want to waterproof (or at least puddle-proof) my Lunchbox and my wife's Midnight Pumpkin. Soon it will be fall in Oregon, and we won't see the sun for about six months, but I still want to be able to bash.

I have some small plastic food containers that fit well in the chassis tub and have enough room for the receiver and ESC. My thought was to enclose these two in the container, drill holes for the wires, and seal them up with silicone. I'm not too worried about heat, since they're just the stock TEU101BKs with 540 motors and the ESCs seem to run nice and cool. I think I can seal up the servo well enough to keep water out of it with a little grease, and even if I kill one, they're only cheapo S3003s anyway.

But then I was thinking: The battery will be hanging down there, getting splashed every time the truck even comes near water. Will this hurt it? Should I seal it up? Can I seal it up? Thoughts? Suggestions?

No need to worry about waterproofing the battery. Currents across battery terminals will only flow with very salty water (you'd be safe even in the Dead Sea) because water (as a conductor) has very high resistance compared with the resistance path through your ESC and motor.

Mud.

Just like to add a little to this, the lunchbox floats with the the top of the tyres just just breaking the surface of the water - and mine only stopped when the water got to the receiver :D the wheels did start to fill with water after a bit so I would also recommend sealing the air holes in the inside of the rim lol
