New Tamiya Releases

Recommended Posts

Another topic about new tamiya releases... But with a little twist.

When I stood up today I suddenly just had the feeling tamiya will be releasing the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X.

I know they didn't release the 8 and 9, but it is a japanese car, they recently released the Pajero, so I think Mitsubishi wouldn't mind if tamiya made a shell. Also, I haven't seen the Lancer Evo X being used as a rally car, so they will probably release it as a civilian version like the Nissan GT-R if they would release the Lancer Evo X.

Do you have any thoughts about what tamiya WILL (not should) release in the rest of 2008 and in 2009?

yeah i'm with you on the evo x, its a shame they never did the 9, heaps better looking than the 7 and 8. also the possibility of the 935 and 288GTO are pretty likely as mentioned elsewhere..

It would be really cool if they'd do the 935... I'd certainly want one of them then :P And indeed not too unlikely as they have relatively much already done because they also have a tamtech version.

I also think tamiya may release the new Impreza (oh yugh, gimme the old one) early next year, since they have done all impreza's since the 97'er so far. And I hope they stop making new raybrig nsx shells :) they have way too many of them.

Maybe its time to start ralleye racing some of those Raybrig NSXs to help get rid of them...? :o:)

Haha :) it would look very wrong, but it's a good way to trash those bodies!

I think though that they will come with more GT car releases soon releases soon... The TB03 is still only available with the Arta Garaiya body... They will probably release one soon with a TA05IFS body and some time after that a new body for both the TA05IFS and the TB03...

I would like to see the Holiday Buggy and Sand Rover re-re'd.

Good, simple models, easy to build for the beginner and I'm sure Tamiya would sell thousands to collectors and fans of the retro style models.

They should be cheap to produce and have a fairly low selling price - lots of people are feeling the pinch at the moment but still want a bit of fun.

These 2 kits fit the bill perfectly.

Not to mention a good supply of realistically priced SRB front bumpers becoming available :)

I think a 1/10 935 on a TT-01 would be logical (which I will put in pre-order).

Same about the Furarry 288 GTO...(without the pre-order thing).

The new "hatch back" Impreza will come out for sure.

What I would like to see is the W32 Golf, that's a cool car (although it drives terrible IRL).

Grtz Dee.

I'd like to see a few 'new' retro releases. How about the Escort Mexico for example? Or maybe the 6R4 Metro? New car design is not really fitting of the Tamiya 'golden era' IMHO. And considering the cost of some of the Original SRB's why don't they re-release them? I know the purist would say; its to preserve the value, but they could easily make them difeerent enough to ensure no confusion. I wonder whether Tamiya ever log-in to this forum, its gotta be the perfect free marketing tool for them!!! :)

Anything escort related (mexico escort would be fantastic), or just a good euro rally car.

Other than that, I would like something experimental looking like a new RC boys car :)

My all time favourite retro 80's car - 3dr Sierra Cosworth or preferably 3dr XR4i - could also be sold in the USA market as the Merkur XR4Ti where it has somethng of a cult following and I believe is unique in that it is the only European Ford ever to sell in greater numbers in the North Amercan market than it did in Europe !

The decision has nothing to do with 'preserving the value', Tamiya couldn't care less about a very small minority of collectors. Tamiya are a business and like any other business decisions are based entirely on whether they will make any money from them. There are many reasons they haven't re-released them, and they have been discussed endlessly here, but the simple reason is they won't sell enough to justify the cost of production. As has been seen in the choice of re-releases Tamiyas biggest market is still Japan and as long as Japan prefers Fire Dragons that's what we'll get.

One of Tamiyas staff is a member here well known amongst us older members and used to be a regular poster (or annoyance depending on your opinion of him :( ). As for a marketing tool, I can't see it being any use taking marketing decisions based a few hundred people who aren't much interested in new kits compared with the millions of customers they have throughout the world.

Can anyone give me a valid reason that Tamiya could even consider releasing an old Escort body, apart from the fact you personally like it? :) They are a Japanese company, it's the same as asking someone over here to make a Datsun 1200 rally car body - more likely than ever seeing an Escort from them.

Back on topic:

A sure fire bet, I expect to see a Nissan GT-R GT500 body in Nismo colours at some point, now they have the two IFS chassis to put it on. Depending on sales of the Countach we might see a 1/10th 935, although I would prefer a Toyota Celica LB Turbo. And I also expect the new Impreza as well :D

1/10 scale 935 and Celica LB Turbo bodies would be lovely mounted on a TB EVO or TRF model. Could have some cool High Speed Retro races :) ... Also, Traxxas has the Slash/Slasher (AWESOME), Tamiya could get into this market of 1/8 true scale Stadium Trucks- I'll wait on the Traxxas for a year to see copycats that become available from all companies..

Maybe, just maybe....by 2009 - TXT-2!!!!!

Do you have any sources which might confirm that, or why you think that, because it's quite interesting to hear this :)

And Highflyer, I doubt they'll release an EP truck in 1/8th scale, Like terry mentioned, the Japanese and after that the American market are the most important for tamiya, and I doubt tamiya would be able to outdo Traxxas' Slash in performance AND price... The only thing tamiya would probably do better is making a body, but as I said, it will either be sold with bushings and friction shocks, or it will be way more expensive than the Slash. It would be very cool though if tamiya did release something like it.

And in TamiyaUSA's TT01 cars list there is already a new TB03 release listed as 'coming soon' - the Xanavi Nismo GT-R (R35). Why between the TB03's? I don't know, but it says TB03 behind it...

Does someone know how much the DTM bodies were sold, because the DTM cars have changed quite a bit since 2004... Lower, (even) less road car looking and actually would be very nice on an IFS release :( (Audi's 2008 DTM Car & Mercedes' 2008 DTM Car)

I'd love to see that GTI body packaged with the TB03, maybe even with the LED kit like the TT01e kit has. Now that would be an instant sale for me...although just buying the TB03 and springing the $30 for the body in addition is getting to be an interesting idea...Stellamodels sure has a nice price on those two. Must resist the temptation, lol.

I'm with you all the way on this one Brother!! Although Kyosho did the RS500 it was a bit squat looking and not upto Tamiya's scaling. A 4x4 Sapphire in Q8 livery would be nice too.... oh to dream

I was going to guess it out, but why kill the fun..

Anyways..

a new kit tamiya might be interested to make?

beats me, I think we'll see a new impreza, looking at how popular that car is, and the Evo X as well.. Not as rally cars, but as tarmac cars... yummy, I never like those roof scoops anyways..

And depending on how good the TB03 IFS is, we may or may not see a standard TB03. I certainly like how they cast the motor and centre bearing mount together.

and more TT01-E bodies having the antenna hole drilled in an annoying spot...grrrr

I wonder if Tamiya have ever done customer research as to a re-re SRB in Japan? I would think even over there would be a clamour for a Sand Scorcher?

They simply won't. Why? The SRB is an outdated chassis with many flaws. It's too heavy, the aluminum was too soft, the chassis plate flexes so much it's almost a part of the car's suspension and no-one except for hardcore collectors would want one. Also, the only way it'll really be an SRB re-re is to use aluminum once again, making the costs for the car sky-high. And more than likely they will not have any of the original designs anymore...

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice piece of tamiya's RC history, but not suited for a re-release.

And IrenL, it indeed is very ***** that they have moved the antenna position... Also, about the TB03... A regular release would be great, because I really would change to normal front suspension immediately if I would buy a TB03 (I already checked if it's possible, and it's should be, looking at the pics).

There were rumors about a 2WD TRF buggy coming... Anyone have opinions/thoughts about this or has more information about this? I would really like it if they'd release an advanced 2WD buggy, something Dyna Storm-like. I'd certainly want one!

I also think they will come with a new M-chassis shell soon, they haven't done much on the M-chassis front in a while, and they will need to keep their M-chassis enthusiasts happy. The M03 still sells too well to replace, but I think they will do this in one or two years.

And as a last question... Do you think tamiya will release an FF03, or is it definetely done with non-M-chassis FWD cars?

Sadly it's true SRB's are not suitable for re-re with the all metal concept....

But one they could bring along very easily is the Sand Rover / Holiday Buggy, as mentioned by Tamiyabigstuff, it's almost all plastic and if they make the chassis thicker where those @#!/~} front suspension mounts attach then I'll be happy.

Please listen Tamiya spies

I never owned or driven one of them, but they seem to be a sort of Frog/SRB crossover... Simple, easy to assemble and probably a nice first car

Me: becoming more and more intimate with the binder hole puncher, punching round lexans to fill in the holes...

I think it might have just be possible to revert to regular TB03.. shock tower look similar to 05 at a glance..

FF03? Very unlikely... unless tamiya decided to do a brand new 2wd buggy, of which they can simply flip the gearbox around with to build a new FF platform...

Then again, they'd only build what they can sell.. very corporate indeed.
