Hi,

I've decided to put a load of hop ups on my tl-01 so far i've bought a 19 turn motor, new esc, 19t pinion, new gears, foam bumper and new wheels and tyres

what would be some more good hop ups to put on the car?

i've seen that the bearings are a good hop up but how many do you need because on ebay i've seen that some have got less than others in the pack.

Thanks

Good thing about the TL01 is it only uses one size of bearing-1150's

You'll need 24 of them to do the whole car

Turnbuckle tie rods are also worthwhile as it makes adjusting your steering easy

It really depends what you want to do with the car

I have a TL01 that I race occasionaly at my local club and it's got every hop-up available fitted (except alloy stuff)

It's really down to you how far you want to go

The carbon propshaft (part number 53323) makes a lot of difference to the performance as it takes a lot of weight out of the transmission.

Yes i agree the carbon prop is a good mod, Ball bearing are MUST!!!! You CANNOT drive a tl01 with a 19turn motor with plastic bushings!! Not sure how many are used in a tl01 though,

speed tuned gears are also very good upgrade.

You can make a carbon prop shaft yourself - if you have a local kite shop, go and see if they'll let you have an offcut piece of carbon rod (4mm I think) - cut it to the right length (carefully - use gloves and roll the rod as you saw, to avoid splintering it) then drill holes in the right places for the small pins that engage the gears...

You can also make your own hollow carbon gear shafts with more offcuts...

5mm as the shafts are supported by 1150 bearings

I just ordered the speed tuned gears i am making my TL01 my drifter now i have seen a carbon prop shaft on ebay from the us it was about 10 but other than that i cannot see any on there??? anyone no where to buy one?

I must be talking to myself...

I was listening ;)

On a more serious note, I made my own carbon prop for my Top Force & it split along it whole length after just a single run :o

I'll add some photos tonight, but basically it just debonded. The fibres run the length of the rod, rather than it being woven & it's split into 4-5 strips.

And it's not like I have huge power available, it's only a 19t motor on 3600NiMh packs, 74t spur & 18t pinion.

Hi,

I was having loads of fun drifting my tl01 last night. I have just wrapped electical tape around the kit tyres and it drifts nicely on the road outside my house.

As far as mods go I have ball raced it, changed the pinion to the biggest allowed by the stock gears, I think its 23T but I might be wrong, the motor is a Tamiya Lightly Tuned 27T motor with the timing advanced to give more revs. With the modified motor the chassis suffered from terrible torque steer - if the car was trimmed to run in a straight line on power, it would turn sharply to the right as I came off the power. I thought this was just because I was using too much motor for the chassis, but I upgraded to oil shocks and its completley cured.

I really like the Lightly tuned motor once the timing is advanced, with the standard timing it has loads of tourque, but the revs are about the same as the kit motor. With the timing advanced, there is still massive torque but with loads more revs. You can see my post elsewhere on the lightly tuned motor and all the responses as to why you shouldnt modify it in the way I have ;-(

The motor does run extremely hot from drifting, much hotter than when I drive it as a grip car and the run times are correspondingly shorter. Something you might want to consider when choosing your electronics and maybe a heat sink. To drive the car as a grip car I just take the tape off the tyres so the heat is purley from drift style driving.

Right now, the car is a little bit reluctant to break out if I try to initiate a drift at the end of a full speed run in a straight line (come off the power, turn in, quick punch of power), but at anything other than top speed I can put the back end out with a quick pull of the throttle. The car is reasonably stable in a drift, but you need to drive a bit cautiously to avoid fishtailing when you want to exit a drift back onto a straight.

I have quite a high ride height (higher than the stock kit, as I sometimes run on brick paving) and I have very free running diffs front and rear, I am sure I could get the car to turn in more willingly if I lowered the front ride height and I am also sure that the fishtailing could be reduced by using stiffer grease in the rear diff. At one time I ran the car for grip driving with 5mm ride height on the friction shocks, the steering was super sensitive, fun but demanding.

Right now the car is fun and versatile - tape on for drifting/ tape off for grip - so I am going to leave it as is until my neighbours get better at drifting thier cars and I need to raise my game.

Let me know how you get on

Duane.

That's worrying. Mine in my TL01 has lasted ages. How did you shape the ends to fit the Top Force?
