Hi All,

I have been on holiday at my Mom's place in South Africa, and I was introduced to this old relic that I had from many moons ago, I am hoping someone can help me identify it...

  • Here is some info that I have on it:
  • It originally had a Lancia Stratos body on it (this has long since departed)
  • The chassis is paper thin aluminium and is bent a bit, although I recall the car only ran once...I could never get it to run properly as a 13 year old
  • It has a diff that is functional, not sure if it is ball or bevel, but have not had a chance to open it up
  • Front suspension is independant and simple coil on kingpin style, rear suspension is via a cage that the motor/gearbox is mounted in and rotates over the centerline via a spring system
  • The tires are rubber with treads

I was going to say that they were Stratos wheels...But I should read those word things first :D

Man, that'd sound like a clockwork toy chugging along with all the pressed plate parts :D

Do I have to answer :)

Haven't got a definite answer for this one, but can give a very educated guess.

The style of the front bumper, clear plastic MSC box, as well as the wire fixing side body mounting is very similar to Nichimo.

Looking at the rest judging by the amount of pressed flat plate, the scale rubber tyres and a choice of 2 gear ratios depending on the motor placement this is either a cheap car to go alongside their Nichimos competition chassis, or it preceded the car that Dazza has won. Or being pretty vague on this it might be a car designed by someone who had a Nichimo to copy. I can't be any more definite than that unfortunately - even I'm not infallible!. :(

That looks very much like a nichimo, however if it is a nichimo the front bumper should have nichimo etched in to it. No idea what model it is but it is nothing like my stratos(which is nice and shiny thanks to abit of autosol). If your selling it let me know as i might be interested in it or if you really want to help out a fellow tc non paying but well known member you couldnt sell me afew of the part i n eed to finish my project could ya

Ahaaa, I looked for it and I found it, it is indeed a Nichimo, and the marking is there as pointed out...not so easy to see when the bumber is attached, but it is there...

Thanks for all the help.

I am not going to use/restore this, so I would be prepared to trade it for something....WHY

Recieved the car yesterday, im shocked at how well designed this thing is. Everything is over engineered, it really makes my other nichimo look really basic. Why would nichimo bother to add such a complicated suspension set up on the front? Or even go the trouble of moulding "pirelli" and all of the writing from the real tire in to the tires? This car really is somthing special, im hoping to source another stratos shell and shelf this one next to my other nichimo. Everything has been stripped, currently awaiting cleaning and light polishing to remove the tarnish. Diff is a very simple geared diff, none of the gears have any wear at all. I did have the motor going yesterday, obviously sounded quite bad with all the dirt and lack of grease on the gears but it did work. It is a shame that all the battery holder and msc bits are missing, doubt I will ever find replacements so I will have to make some. Will update with pictures once the chassis has been polished and straightened.

Sirandy, I can only say thank you very much for such a kind offer. This cas has gone to a very good home and will NEVER be sold or traded on.

If anyone can help with parts please let me know.

Hey Daz,

Glad it all got there ok. It would be good to see some pics once you have fixed it up...
