I spent the afternoon out with my mate yesterday and our identical Hilux High-Lifts - I say identical - they are both fully ball-raced but mine has an Integy 45t lathe motor and my mates has the kit supplied motor. We both have the same MTroniks RV11 ESC and Spectrum 2.4Ghz radios. In the many races we had around and about we noticed that there was virtually no speed difference between them - surely we should have noticed something? I mean - if the kit motor is 27 turns - I had an extra 18 turns of wire in my Integy motor? We wondered if this is why the kit says in several places to only use the kit supplied motor - is it some special wind especially for the High-Lift?

The only real test would be for me to fit a known standard 540 silver can and then race - but I cant be bothered to pull the transmission out! lol

Thoughts?

yes, the silver can is still 27 turns, but what about the batteries (both fulled loaded?) you used -

and maybe yours had much more punch than your friend ones?!

Hey skip,

it's just a stock 27 turn can, not even a nice quality one either.

(Tamiya sell the slightly better johnson 540 as a hop up now, whereas it used to come with the kits as standard a few years ago. Though Tamiya have switched between mabuchi and johnson motors a few times over the years)

I don't know what's up there (other than batteries, esc not set up right or something binding big time), because my HL flies compared to others I know of with lathe motors.

I'd be looking closely at your esc set up and seeing how smoothly it turns over.

I have heard the silver can motor is actually 35 turns , i run a 35 turn 550 motor in the high lift and it was the same speed as the standard silvercan
