Hi fellow West Country TC-ers.

I'm suggesting a scarey trip to the woods at the end of October. We can run some 'Midnight Pumpkins' or 'Monster Trucks', and frighten each other with demonic driving! You'll need offroad cars, trucks or buggies capable of either running on dirt tracks, up hills, leaf litter or over ground obstacles.

2 venues come to mind; Castle Neroche on the Blackdown Hills south of Taunton, or Quantock Hills/Cliff Lane near North Petherton between Taunton & Bridgwater. Unfortunately neither has toilets so you'll have to cross yer legs! Unless anyone knows of a better wooded venue idea?

I'll offer a prize to the best or funniest Halloween fancy dressed car or truck! 180px-Vampire_Smiley.png

I vote 19th although either is currently clear in my diary and don't mind changing :)

I might even be able to bring a new homeboy along to join the cru (altho he probably won't buy a TC showroom so won't be able to join the sig :P )

Voted 19th, although both are free for us as well.

Love the poll idea for arranging a date. Superb! :)

Maybe should have an option of "any" for future meets. :P

E-Maxx is now (sort of) fixed so that should be good. TLT would love this kind of outing, and if I ever get it built the PTI Goliath would love it too

Hi all.

Went for the 19th but either is good.

Just got my Hilux Racer to fix, the diff keeps slipping, think its more than a simple strip down, more parts to buy  .

Lemming, I am dreading to ask this, what up with Maxxy?

My mum's Hilux has the same problem. I fixed it the last time they brought it over to Wales for a visit. Will see if they can remember what I did (shims from another ball diff from memory, but not sure).

Poor Maxxy was still suffering from a broken bottom (the site seriously blocks the good old west country A.R.S.E. word...) from the last meet! I really haven't had time to strip the poor thing to see exactly what is in need of replacement, but grabbed some new rod-ends from Modelsport just last week. She is finally fixed up and (hopefully) in full working order.

I'm afraid that RC stuff has come bottom of the pile behind Tree problems, Maria's car falling apart and Colds/Man Flu for Evan and I.

Looking forward to catching up though!!!

Steve, Maria and Evan - the tiny terror who is into everything and anything - be prepared to lose screws, tools and maybe even whole cars (if I can get him trained in time B) )

Tree problems

??? :)

Man Flu

It's a nasty one, isn't it? I got it last Thursday and my face still feels like it's been through a cheese-grater. All the men in the office feel like we're dying and the women just don't get it.

My RC stuff has fallen way behind recently, had far too many important things on my mind (mostly trying to earn enough money to replace the things that get stolen every month now that I live in Bristol). A lot of my stuff is out of action and I don't have the spare cash to fix it, however, I will attempt to bring the following:

14.4v Dagger (now with original plastic hubs that hopefully won't bend and hi-torque servo that will hopefully keep that sticky rubber pointing in the right direction; but with CVDs that might give up at any moment)

F150 Trail Truck for some scale trailing fun between the trees

Dark Impact just in case we have some flat enough areas for buggies

If there's some gravelly tracks between these spooky trees then I might bring the rally cars too.

TXT would be ideal but is out of action with a busted propshaft and I can't be bothered to order a replacement.

We had a tree problem during the storms (we were away) and the neighbour paid for the work to be done. We were also advised that the other trees are unstable and will fall towards the house if they go over.

Women definitely don't get Man-Flu...

14.4v in a dagger with CVD's = broken CVD's. Drove Hillman666's 14.4v Dagger at Kidderminster and after several hard runs we were scrounging standard drive-shafts from anyone who had them. Broke 3 in a couple of runs.

Sounds like this could be a fun day!

sounds like my ex
14.4v in a dagger with CVD's = broken CVD's.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's broken pretty much everything else I've stuck to it. I've never succesfully ran a set of batteries without it breaking something. It probably would have been cheaper just to buy a 14.4v truck in the first place!

I think it needs some Ofna HD shafts and some of those hardened drive cups.

The couple of places I'm thinking of, (my) Alex & I have run Clod, Wild Dagger, TXT, 4wd buggies... so anything you guys mention above would fit right in. I just fancied a bit of a change from Ham Hill or a car park <_< Very glad you think this is a fun idea.

Now you need to put your thinking caps on about a terrifying car costume! ;)

Sunday 19th October it is then! ;) The halloween vehicle prize is sorted.

Here's an idea - meet at 11am at our house (Woolavington, about a mile from J23 of the M5 near Bridgwater) for cuppa tea or coffee with biccies. There's no w/c where we're going (ladies take note, the boys can always find a tree!) but you're welcome to use our 'facilities'.

Then at midday you guys can follow me to 'The Cliffs' at North Petherton.

Email me for directions to my house & phone number (rabiedmushroom@btinternet.com) and I'll post directions to the woods here later.

If you can't come on the day, you can join in our Cider Bashers Halloween costume contest by posting online instead. :D

Does this help?

Some say... the aircraft carrier was the end of the road for Black Stig... ;)

I've posted in Hints & Tips about that - it's something to do with the forum and probably won't change anytime soon. The attachment is sent as raw text in a .TXT file format. The .TXT file won't open on your PC? Have you got something awful Norton Worsethanvirus installed that is stripping attachments off your emails..?

LOL @ Mushroom's pic

I've had a good idea for mine - unfortunately I had a load of thick black fur left over from my old ratbike but I threw it all away when I moved house. A furry monster would have been awesome!

I had a similar thought for one of my bashed up Falcon bodies but I did not think you would all appreciate a rotting road-kill Badger draped over my car!

Just looked at the weather forecasts for the weekend and its good.

Looking to bring;-

Off Road

VLB

Blackfoot Extreme

Baja Champ

Falcon (if I can fix the hubs)

Mini off Road

TT Hotshot (now 4WD and geared correctly)

Rage (now rebuilt and keeping clear of Big Bully Hummer!!!)

Bonkers Stuff

Traxxas Bandit (See what other innocent things it can pick on)

8.4V mystery thing!?!?!

16.8V mystery thing!?!?! :)

Nitro (if we have the space)

HPI MT2

Lots of batteries, chargers and a big black plastic sack for when things let go, which they will.

Still thinking about a terrifying car costume (my driving should be enough to frighten most), had some thoughts but by skills are not up to it, I will let Karan see what she can come up with.

Catch you all soon

Ooo, ooo, ooo (should there be a missus on the end there?). I know what they are sir, I know sir, I know......... :D:P:)

We are hoping to pick up the oldies (my parents) on the way through, so only bringing TLT, Hummer and Maxxy this time to keep enough space for their stuff too. My only other rough stuff capably ones are the buggies - Dyna Storm is still awaiting a repair from Kidderminster last year (so OK on-road, not good off) and the Top Force really needs a strip and rebuilt to be properly sorted.

On a plus note, the nasty Yank Tank has been given his marching orders when it comes to playing with 'ickle stuff. He has now sworn to behave like his mommy, rather than his daddy.

If I remember, will have the peg board, 2 chargers, all standard and mixed mode 27mhz crystals and some tools with me again.

Anyway, see you all at Suzy's place.

Steve, Maria and a very sniffly Evan

Some of you guys have emailed me for directions to our house. Meet there at 11am for cuppa tea & a biccie. :P

Aim to get to the woods for about midday.

For any of you that want to go straight there, here's some directions to 'The Cliffs' near North Petherton:

Google maps linky

From J24 of M5, drive down A38 through North Petherton. Past the church on your left. After the light controlled pedestrian crossing but before the zebra crossing turn right into the small road (Tappers Lane) next to McColls/Post Office. At the tiny crossroads with Shovel Lane, go straight across onto Cliff Road (signposted to Clavershay). After half a mile you'll see a newly tarmaced driveway and wooden gateway on your left. Opposite is a 'No Through Road'. Turn right down here. Follow the road for quarter of a mile until it forks. The left hand fork goes straight into the woods' narrow car park in front of you, go right and you'll get lost going to some private properties!

Posted

OK, runner's list:

14.4v Dagger - hopefully I can get the glue I need in time to finish the shell, otherwise it's going to look a bit rubbish. Hopefully the CVDs will hold out! In fact, maybe this time I'll actually get two whole packs through the truck without something else breaking..?

Dark Impact - my favourite buggy will get a good airing in the woods. I might try swapping the Super Stock BZ for a 19T LRP to see if it makes any difference.

F150 Trial Truck - if the 55t motor hasn't seized after its last soaking then I'll give it a good run. There's something deeply satisfying about slow scale trucks :o

TB01 Rally - will bring it in case there's a good rallying surface

M03 Swift Rally - again, will bring in case we've got nice rallying roads

OK, OK, so rather than being SPOOKY it was POOPY

Hi all,

Sorry I was a bit weird by the afternoon... Forgot to take my medication the night before! :P

Seriously, I really did - Left me really tired and out of it so sorry if I was a bit grumpy / bad company towards the end of the day.

Ev slept for 2 hours when we left and my Mum is much better now.

Video looks quite good so will be working on that ASAP. Going to be a few videos as the road sweeper has to have on of its own.

Have fun all

Steve

It wasn't just you... I've picked up a rotten cold, which is why I was hanging by the end of the evening but didn't realise it at the time. I apologise if anyone has inadvertantly picked up my germs. BTW, it was my husband that shared them with me, not poobegone!

P.S. Draggin is not a road sweeper you cheeky monkey! I've found a replacement axle, and the bust steering is just a bolt fallen out. Tough Landrover.

Morning all,

Finally got time to catch up with things.

Lemming glad to hear that all the clan was OK in the end, must admit that I was a bit off, had the manic bit over the weekend now having the low, it probably did not help that I only had about 4hours sleep the night before and the one before that.

It was a bit of a shame that that Maxxy could not train the youngun!!! :)

Suzy, as an Asthmatic, the best advice I can give for colds are, Paracetamol in the day and Vicks Vaporub at night, plus Chicken Soup (Chicken Noodle soup work best for me :) ). It works just as well as all the over the counter stuff! Good to hear that the road sweeper only suffered a slight injury.

Looking forward to the Vids.

Take care everyone.

We're an unhealthy bunch, aren't we?

I felt OK when I left, but two miles down the road I got wholly disorientated and nearly steered off the road. The steering felt so light, I started to have a panic attack because I thought I was in the wrong car!! Then I remembered - I'd done my usual weekend thing of completely forgetting to eat all weekend, and had completely run out of sugar. That was a long, slow and careful drive back to the pizza shop to replenish my carbs :)

I hadn't planned to stay out so late but was having so much fun, I couldn't drag myself away :)

Next time, if we plan to yap all evening, we get a takeaway! :)

Edit - Matt have you been brave enough to clean the PooBeGone off the Slash shell and tyres yet? Karen don't even think of volunteering unless a significant bribe is negotiated! :)
