Hi all. I was just wondering what the best truck for off roading is?

I love my pumpkin, but on really steep hills, it runs out of traction.

Are twin engined trucks a good bet?

I have just ordered a fire dragon, so I have the 4wd buggy thing covered...so just need a 4wd truck now! :)

Thanks

For bashing or scale driving?

I like my cr-01 - but its a bit slow for full on bashing about. The highlifts are good but expensive, pajeros look cool and are quite capable.

The only 2 motor truck i have is the superclod - and it rocks. The suspension sucks, the steering is vague to say the least - but it goes like crazy, and not much has stopped it so far!

The TXT-1 is a good truck for general purpose bashing about as it's pretty versatile due to its size and suspension setup.

Clod buster axles are a perfect starting point. Combine them with an after market chassis, of which there are endless amounts available, and you can have a truck that will go anywhere off road.

Trucks with the smaller 2.2 wheel size are good fun off road, but loose out to the bigger trucks when the terrain gets rough.

It really depends on the kind of ground you'll be driving on ;)

Never seen a Wild Dagger in action but I think its a good choice for some proper bashing!

I prefer scaling so would have suggested the Pajero - but for pure bashing the WD fits the bill!

Its a very robust design - good little truck!!! ;)

Here's a thread that is a must see then:

Lots of cool hop ups in there. The longer shocks, after market shock towers, high power esc's and faster motors are what seem to make the truck come alive.

MBIB and Skip, thanks for your replies

I will check that link!

general bashing = wild dagger / twin detonator / dual hunter.

they go anywhere and are plenty tuff.

not great rock crawlers, but that's a pretty specialized discipline.

Wow -nice pics! Looks like a lot of dedication there!

What motors should I run? I want it to be fast, but not so fast that it flips itself over on full gas! Any ideas?

I expect 2x ST 540s will be a bit lame?

yes the 2x std 540s are beyond lame. mind numbingly so. they need at least a couple of sport tuned motors. and bearings.

or you could do like backtomyroots has done and go for the land speed record with 2x 550 12ts and lots of carbon fiber. seriously nice truck that. :P

Love my highly modded Super Clod, stock TXT-1 and my Humvee M1025. The humvee is fast and fun and even very scale.

As for the lame comments on the stock 540's, not true at all. Juice them with a good duall battery ESC and 14.4v and I get 20+ minutes of runtime off dual 2400 batts and they have more speed then either the TXT or Clod can handle (clod has nothing left on it stock but the axle cases now). Blip the throttle and your dragging bumper all day long if you want.

Thanks ! And yes, it is very fast . All offers are being accepted as well ;) .

Definitely replace the 540's with soemthing else - maybe 15 turns ? And you MUST install ball bearings when you build.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have got ball bearings on order, so that is done. I would like to upgrade to some better motors. What should I be looking for in terms of turns? I have no idea! Also, does a 550 fit in a 540 space??

Sorry, but, new to this.

Thanks

PS Amazing looking Trucks!

A pair of 17 turn doubles (540 size) would likely do well in there. Yes, the 550s bolt right in place with no problems. Be aware that the average 550 motor needs 14.4 volts (or basically two 7.2v packs) to perform properly. At 7.2v, a 550 is actually slightly slower the a 540 but with more torque.
