Come on then who's been playing in the snow? - For those outside the UK, - The Eastern side of the UK is covered in snow (and as usual nothing bigger than an RC car can get traction[;)]

Hi! We've got snow here in the eastern U.S. too! I've had my TXT out in the snow more than a few times. I have a pair of 9 turn doubles in it now. They are far from practical, but I got a great deal on them, so in they went. With those motors, the truck doesn't do much except sit still or do doughnuts in the snow! Vince

Hey, I'm from Aberdeen here in the north of Scotland and we got snow pretty bad too, I am running an old TA03 Lancer EVO V, I am using an old set of Tamiya tires into which I have put a few drawwing pins from the inside and glued them into place and put some hard inner sponge in them too. Traction is great although the pins seem to get bent quite easilly, but great fun and its better as I hae control of the car with the spiky tires.

Thanx

I've just been out with my Terrac Conqueror. We have some snow here in Belgium and it's a lot of fun.

I have the standard spike tyres and they were better than I thought they would be.

I just put a 21 pinion on the Dyna Tech motor so she went like stink, but I don't think the snow is too good for the motor and ESC so I gave up before it was expense time!!...

Jimmy,

If you put drawing pins through your tyres, try cutting them off much closer to the rubber (1-2mm at most) this will stop them bending as easily, and will probbably get the traction going better. The best thing for home made medal spikes i found was carpet tacks (again cut down to size). Iam told simply covering a tyre with staples (so they bend over like a stapler) makes them give the effect of snow chains. (Or you could just try to make snow chains.

On another note, I had my Avante running with carpet tack spikes earlier. - Traction was great, however the snow was a little too deep (only 2-3") (the car kind of looked like a cartoon mole [just a lump moving around under the surface!])

Alternatively, you could spemd seven and half hours trying to get home last night.

London to Hertforsdshire - 29 miles - 7.5 hours. It would have quicker to use my Fox and be pulled along on a sledge.

And the helpful man in the Texaco garage wouldnt let me use the loo. (thats the mens bathroom to Americans).

One of the earlier editions of the Tamiya radio control guide books had an article on making snow chains for the 3 speed Hilux.....[8D]

I made my own blitzer snow-chains by wrapping chicken wire around the tyres and tying the wire throught he spokes of the wheel to stop slippage. Strangely enough, it worked!

From California...What is SNOW? Never heard of it? Can one explain? ;-) Outside of the Sierra's, mountains, if we get snow we all crash into one another in our sports cars! We don't know how to drive in bad weather here in Sunny California.

From the Bay area, Silicon Valley. It snows here ONCE every 10 years or so and when it does(about 2 inches worth), all the roads shut down, people crash, schools are canceled, you get the picture.

HA!

What about Big Bear and Snow Summit? Or if you're up in SF and Silicone Valley, what about Lake Tahoe and Mammoth? ;D just kidding, whenever I'm in CA - I kick back on the beach as well - it's like Alaska here in Norway these days, and it's not a good temperature for your racing pack!

Its funny you should say that Darin, cos I dont think people in the U.K really know what to do when it snows (apart from break out the tamiyas), the whole country seems to come to a grinding halt.

People dont drive with the care it deserves either, on my 2 hour journey covering a total of 8 miles, I counted 12 shunts.

Now, rain on the other hand we can handle!

we got about a foot (or more) of snow today, have to take out my 1:1 Pajero in these conditions - it to much for any 1:10 R/C car anyway, can't wait for it to melt. Not even your plow truck would work here now Sanja [;)]

No snow here. [:I]

Its bushfire season downunder... today's gonna be 30+ degC and haven't seen any decent rain since October. The whole country's smouldering and the skies are grey with soot.

Some snow here would be great!! [:)]

I've had me CRV out a few times. I've since acquired an S-10, so the CRV is back safe on the shelf. In the northeast US, we've had a great snowy (and cold) winter so far.

I only realized last weekend, that the accumulated snow at my house was stable enough to hold the weight of an RC car without it sinking. Before that, I only drove on the driveway after fresh snow had fallen, before plowing it away. Too bad, I missed a few great weekends of bashing around.

The s-10 is great with it's 4wd. The midnight pumpkin showed great promise, but an early crash into the S-10 broke it's servo saver (I hope it saved the servo at least). The Marui Big bear is also pretty good in the snow with it's balloon tires. My Traxxas Stampede does not have good traction on the icy snow, but was great in the street, jumping over the piled snow at the edge of the road.

So far, I haven't wrecked anything with water, but I did need to tear down and rebuild the s-10 MSC, which had turned green from the salty water. In my area, they do a great job of clearing snow, but they apply tons on salt and sand to the streets in doing so.

Oh yea, we got some snow. 2 feet worth in my front yard. You are welcome to as much of it as you want. However, you must come and haul it away. All of it!! [8D]

Cheers,

We had snow lately as well. Me and my mate took out his Midnight Pumpkin and my King Blackfoot and they went really well. We even shot a movie of my King Blackfoot making some donuts and doing some drifting, which always turned out BAD when the cam is swichted on, it always went right when the camere WASN'T running, I swear! [B)]

Later on we did a experiment with the Sony handycam, ducktape and the body-less Pumpkin... (The cam was from my mate's dad's work, let not tell the boss what we did with his cam this time! [:I] [:P]). We shot some great on-board movies chasing real cars and my mate chasing my KBF etc. etc. One movie with snow and the other is a tour around the our city - great sightseeing from a rather unusual angle... [|)]

I'll be posting the files around the board here in a while - we are currentle processing the data but we don't want to put a 5 GIG of 'raw-material' download here... [:o] I'll grab my scizors and edit it - and turn the on-board view 90 degrees!!! D'oh agian! [8)] LOL

I promise you all, you won't be disappointed... [;)] [:D]

cool, looking forward to that!

I have been thinking about doin' that myself - but haven't had the time yet. I guess it's cooler with two cars like you used, instead of just the camcar.
