It seems I am the only one in San Diego that runs vintage kits. Everyone here is into drifting, nitro or newer Associated cars.

I have noticed the UK has many Tamiya members that seems to live close to each other, not to mention the meets held more frequent.

Just wanted to know if your runs consist of others, or just you in your backyard or in front of your home.

Melly- I commented in your other post, but I'll add here. There's a track and LHS about 25 minutes from my house-- and a couple guys who will break out the vintage racers now and again. We either run Hornets and Hoppers or a 4wd race (my Hotshot vs a couple of Kyosho Optimas). For weekly racing though it's more modern stuff- stadium trucks, Slash / CORR, and 1/8 scale nitro. There's also an indoor off-road track about a hour south and once my kids are a little older we may start doing some winter racing there.

Otherwise I drag my kids out -- either in the yard or out to a couple parks nearby. Good luck finding some folks local!!

It's partly population density, we have around 65 million people crammed into an area the size of Michigan.

We all live close to each other :P

Well Melly, it seems I'm the only one in PA that runs vintage kits. I run in the backyard and at the parks. Almost all my cars are vintage or re-res (with a few exceptions, the new stuff doesn't do anything for me). My wife thankfully loves to "run the cars" as she puts it. We usually head out to a baseball diamond and race around it (Frog vs. Hornet or Hot Shot vs. Dirt Thrasher etc.). We tried rock crawling a few weeks back and liked it. Everywhere we go its all odd looks and puzzled glances from other folks. I can't say I've seem an electric kit of any kind out and about in 10 years or more. I'd love to go to a track but they are dominated by huge gas powered monsters around my area. With the exception of Tamiyaclub I feel very...well, isolated.

Saito- I know of a few vintage guys in PA, but they are more Associated types. They had a vintage off-road nationals race in Sept (held in CT) and I know at least one of the guys was from PA. You might look for people on http://www.rc10talk.com

Edit: Here's a pic of my Hotshot in action at the 2008 VONats

Try Montana - there are more people in some average sized cities than this entire state has.

Tamiya - nobody has even heard of it here. If it weren't for TC I wouldn't stay sane.

P.S. Here's a really sick fact: I went to grad school for 3 years in Laramie Wyoming and parked in the same parking lot as TC member "Wyoming" [seth] and NEVER MET HIM. We were in neighboring buildings and didn't know it. I didn't join TC until a few months after leaving. GO FIGURE.

If you seen my driving skills, you know why I don't run my vintage stuff. Mind you I don't have a lot of vintage stuff to start with. The main reason is there isn't too much open space and the fear of smacking a curb and doing some real damage is always on my mind and the real reason is my charge and radio gears are in storage and looking at the vintage on display is good enough for me.

We Swedes run ours!

We are a bunch of Swedish nutters who get together every now and then. When we do, we run our old Audi quattros, SRBs, old 3-speeders, Frogs, Brats, Hornets and what ever we might be in the mood for at the moment.

Well I have a re-re Hornet and a re-re Lunchbox, then REAL vintage I have a Marui Galaxy and THREE Marui Ninjas which I run them all, why the badword not! They are here for my running pleasure and I think you should enjoy them, absolutely :) I have also just purchased a Marui Samurai which i will run too, why not! They all bring back great childlhood memories and I love reminising every time I take one of my cars out for a spin ;)

I have just discovered a neighbour has an old Super Hornet so I've helped him get that back running so I now have a partner in crime!!

Now the question is, who wants to meet up in Nottingham UK for a vintage spin!

Sorry to hear that. A bunch of us here (Vegas) run vintage when a day is planned for it.. But we mainly race touring cars...

Melly, ever try racing? I hear San Diego has some nice tracks and great LHS like AMPDRAW....

Malakite, ever been to a Clumber Meet??

I'm very much into running my vintage stuff. My Blazer got it's first off roading at the last Clumber meet. It's a real overweight dinosaur, with no suspension to speak of, but hilarious! I spent hours cleaning and polishing all the chassis and axles, hours rebuilding the gearbox................Then had a great laugh submerging it up to the radio box in muddy water, doing some proper vintage crawling!! It's what they were designed for at the end of the day. Muck wipes off, things can be dismanttled, dried out, and re-oiled ;)

My 2 main favourites for running are my 2 Frogs, and a Super Champ. The frogs are quicker though. I also gave my re-re Hotshot it's first run there. Went really well! 15T pinion on the silver can, and a Tamiya 1400 ni-cad pack. It was built fully ballraced with flushed and lightly oiled bearings though.

I always think it's a shame not to run them. After all, that's what Mr Tamiya intended them for! :)

I run my SRB's almost every second week out door in the sun/rain/snow/wind...

That's what they're supossed to!!!

And I'm hanging with Le Parrain!!!

Do you keep a fairly regular look out in the Meetings section of the TC Forum? Beware that most venues are UK place names (there is a tendancy of TC members on here to think in a way too UK centralised way!) However don't let me discourage you from coming to the (allegedly annual) TC Easter Spring Drive, it's the best meeting on the planet! Could be integrated into a a great week's holiday!

Cheers,

Alistair G.

I haven't ran any of my vintages for a while (ever since I sold my NiMH packs). Then again the only Vintage I like running is my Lunchbox
