Hi Guys.

I have now rebuilt the gearbox on the Blazer, and it works perfectly. The manual I was pointed to was brilliant!! :-)

The problem I have is the pinion on the motor looks worn, and the spur gear has chipped teeth. Looks like the motor might have come loose at sometime in the past. I've pushed it along the floor in all three gears, and in first / 4 wheel drive, it sounds like its skipping a tooth.

Any idea where I can get parts from?? The pinion looks like it's driven onto the motor shaft, as opposed to being held on with a grub screw. Are the pinion, and spur gear interchangable wih anything else?

Thanks,

Rich :-)

As far as I know, pinion and spur are specific to the hilux/blazer.

Spurs pop up on ebay now and again, but i have never seen a pinion offered without a motor and, thinking about it, i have never seen a "hilux motor" for sale with a pinion attached.

If you can find one of these drills in a car boot/yard sale/junkshop they have an identical pressed on pinion in steel

Drill is B+D 7.2v around 1991 -last time I saw one was about 6 months ago at a car boot

Good luck, Geoff

Thanks Geoff,

I guessed the pinion might be interchangable with something else, but I never would have guessed on a Black and Decker drill!!

I'll carry on looking on ebay, never know your luck. At the end of the day, I suppose that one from a Bruiser, or Mountaineer would also fit in place of the HiLux/ Blazer one?? Is the only difference the slipper clutch?

Cheers,

Rich :-)

My Hilux came with an aftermarket pinion and spur gear. I have no idea who made them, I just know they work and had no problem when I was testing my Hilux. I was able to mount a brand new silvercan ;)

Yeah, I'm sure there must be something else out there that will fit :)

I would help but IIRC I couldn't find any sort of marking/make on the spur/pinion.

Hi can you post a picture, these pinions are not very pretty anyway as they have so few teeth. It may just be the spur which while expensive are usually available mosty months on ebay.

Erm... I would post a picture, but in an act of over enthusiasm, I've put it all back together!!!

I think you might be right, about the pinion, but the spur definately will need replacing. It's a shame that the gear assembly isn't like the one in "The Frog", so you can swap just the large part of the gear.
