I recently bought two new packs of 3300 ansamann racing batteries from models in motion, I must say, what a fetid pile of dogdirt they are, I started by charging them on my LRP NiMh charger and got dismal run times from my mad bull (the sort of thing you would get back in the day from a 1200 stick pack from its all night charge!) I assumed it was the car at fault...

Then last weekend I took my F103GT to snetterton with the same cells, I think I got about 5 laps before they were dead flat. A quick cycling and recharge on a friend's Pro Trak revealed why; the maximum capacity i could get from either pack of cells was 980ah, so I can only conclude that these batteries are dross and are fit only to be poked up Ansmann's bumhole.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

LOLOL...

Yeah, I had a couple of NEW Arsmann 1500 NiCd batteries that came with an RTR package that I bought from my LHS.. I decided that these batteries would be OK for my niece to use in her Baja King, but because they hadnt been used for a while (a couple of months), I decided that I would "cycle" them just to make sure that they worked..

I set them up on my CDC-6, using the same profile that I used to charge my Tamiya 1400 SCR's (for my Mini), being a 5A charge and 20A discharge.. Well, lets just say that was a little to much for them, and all of the heatshrink had melted off the first pack, and it didnt work afterwards... For the second pack I reduced the charge rate to 3A and discharge to 10A and was not at all impressed with the 1100mAh output..

I ended up throwing both packs in the bin....

My niece is now using some old 2000 Sanyo cells that would be 8 years old, and they still perform better than the Ansmann batteries..

Yeap, I've had similar experiences with cheap battery packs........ recently bought some Nosram 2200 ni-cad stick packs, and they're utter rubbish. Tried cycling them on my ProTrak charger, to see what was up, and they just melted the heat shrink. I now think they are just false economy.

My favourites now are the Tamiya stick packs, which are really punchy, or GP3300's. OK, they do cost more, but they far outlast cheap packs, which I suppose makes them cheaper in the long run:-)

Cheap NiMH will false peak until you have cycled them a few times. I had a cheap 3800 pack that I had to charge at .5 amp to get it up to capacity. Once you start using them they get better.

I have a 3000mah mtroniks badged pack which I think is made by annsmann, its been very good.

Dispite all that I would only buy GP cells now.
