Hi,

I have just acquired a 306 Maxi from the bay (pure accident honest!), I have a few questions for the FF02 owners out there:

Is it possible to fit a different Spur gear so I can get some better speed out of it? - I ask because it only seems to fittings for upto a 20T pinion and I want a smaller ratio than the 20T.

I saw somewhere that the FF02 chassis has a problem with over heating and melting in the gearbox - is this a common problem? Is there a fix - Perhaps the M03 heatsink is what was suggested to me, but I'm not sure where or how to get one.

Does anyone have a copy of the manual, because I think I might need one - wont know till it gets here!

Oh and a final question - Is it particulalry quick? and how does it handle

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I can't wait to know more about it and I have to wait for it to arrive.[:(!]

The FF02 is a decent car, but not as good as the FF01 which was a derivative of the TA02 chassis. The FF01 motor mounts in front of the front wheels, the motor in the FF02 mounts behind the front wheels. As you are finding out, there are not too many hopups for the FF02, especially the monocoque chassis parts. Also, since the steering servo mounts so high, it is difficult to get the center of gravity low. Tamiya does not make a speed tuned gear set for the FF02 or M03, but one is available from Eagle Model and sold in the US by Integy:

I have order it for my M03 but not received it yet.

The M03 heatsink will help with cooling, and is readily available from shops with a decent Tamiya inventory, or over the internet by mail order.

Hi,

There are a few hop-ups available for the FF02. I also have a 306 maxi WRC. I have modified mine. You can use the MO3 heatsink as I bought one, it ended up on my M03L Mini though. I have so far fitted Carbon gear shafts, Ball diff, bearings, stabilisers, adjustable upper arms, QR battery release and turnbuckle tierods. The car accepts some TL01 mods as well as the MO3 ones.

My parts come from gary (gches@rocketmail.com) he has genuine parts NIB at a much lower price than a LHS. (tell him I recommended you. See my showroom for pics of the 306. I also have a spare manual for a Alfa Romeo FF02 which is mechanically the same. Just send me your address to kendalboatsman@aol.com.

Cheers

OK, essentially everything made for an M03 fits an FF02. But....this doesnt answer your question does it!

Eagle Racing make a speedtuned gear set for the M03 which will fit, and Tobee Craft do a selection of spur gears from 36 right down to 34 which will give you more top end. Getting hold of them is another question altogether!

I know that Jet Hobby in Hong Kong have them but that's the only place that I know of online
