Basically you need the lugs on the bottom to attach the spots. There is a metal bar that the spots atach to, which then attach to part E5 and finally to the holes of the lugs. Alot of people leave them off if it is a runner, because they are the first thing to break after a crash. If you are building a shelfer or really want them on, then the only alternative is to look on ebay for a seller in the states called jim sourbeck who sells repro nosecones.

Am I slow or what? I've only just made the (fairly obvious you'll say) link between Monster "Beetle" and "she loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah". Don't sign me up for the Krypton Factor.

Anyway not much of an update, Thorp Dirt Burner ball diff, UJ's and dogbones fitted along with the Frog re-re rear supports, wheels washed in the dishwasher along with the cutlery to get them ready for a respray (thanks for the tip Ed, but they need a second go), body (still) in the midst of a rub down whilst I decide on a colour scheme (although I have decided I am officially **** at spraying/applying decals so might look for someone to help me out...Ben), deciding whether to fit the CRP front knuckles (not overly happy with state of said purchased item) and just generally taking too darn long about it. Going to put the Frog metal parts bag to good use as well with the front skid pan planned as a late addition. Still need a driver, new boot catch (original one broke due to some shoddy superglue when I got it) and some wipers but nothing that isn't/doesn't apear on the bay. Picked up a Kamtec cheapo shell for running too.

Hoping to get it finished by end of Q2 work permitting, with a good stretch over this bank holiday weekend (blimey, I need this done before I start my Sand Rover project).

Glad to see everyone else's projects bearing fruit though.

Argg I keep seeing all these lovely Monster beetles and have finally decided to give mine the respect it deserves. First I will get rid of the horrible brat shell and all the other un original mods....then hopfully I can display it with pride :D

So does anyone have a battered mb shell lying around? I would like a broken one so I can restore the shell because the chassis was recently fully stripped and greased so all I need to do is fit all the original radio gear, msc ect back in and then find some rear body mounts...

So can anyone help?

Pics added tommorow.

Blackfoot spots arrived today, look fine. Just in the process of conjuring up a bar-attachment to hold them to the MB.... Will post pics once this is on! Glad to hear about everyone's progress. 28 :)

A glass of red and inspiration strikes! Have been faffing with getting the spots attached. Originally I was using the holes from the original bar in the front suspension turret, but using these holes with screws at 90 degrees did not allow the shell to sit properly. In the end I drilled two small holes in the front bumper and knocked up a 'n' shaped bar out of odds and ends. I am really pleased with the result which looks good and is sturdy. The only gripe is that the are currently lower than the originals, but I can easily rectify this later if need be. Pics tomorrow as camera battery is charging. 28

Had a total mare last night (!) decided to superglue the sunroof on and managed to get superglue on the sunroof, the roof and attach my thumb to the sunroof...! LOL! I was not a happy bunny as the superglue didn't do much for the paint finish, and having a thumb attached was not workable longterm. Ended up masking the offending section and repraying it. The result was a raised red section on the roof...

So I ended up sanding the edges of the new section and masking all the beetle stickers and respraying the whole roof section. Luckily, this blended the new bit perfectly. A few coats of lacquer later and the beetle is back to how it was before I started meddling!!

Albeit a bit shinier now! So alls well in the end. :D ...PHEW...!

Back to before superglue debacle, only shinier! Also sunroof is now exactly the same colour as rest of the roof...this wasnt so when I did the sunroof separately!

Next bit to sort is painting the driver (or finding someone who can do it justice)...
