Still haven't managed to obtain a manual for this. However managed to obtain a NIB condition TX and decent box which has the RIKO sheet which may be of interest for UK based collectors/enthusiasts ;-

I wonder if the radio set also came with a supplement booklet showing accessories and spare parts, just like the MK1 did?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

I'm getting nearer to completion of all of the vintage Acoms sets in just about NIB condition, which I'm very pleased at. Also got "runners" of the same radios in excellent conditions LOL.

Curses. Just noticed that the servos shown on the box are AS-5 and not my AS-7's. LOL. Time to go hunting for mint AS-5's...also I haven't got the RIKO sticker on the front of my box which is annoying, yet it came with the RIKO sheet inside. Odd.

On the upside I pulled the cellophane off the transmitter front logo and found that it was absolutely perfect underneath. Cool.

Hi Ali G . I have 2 boxed sets - not complete though .They are both different boxed sets, even the outer sleeve pictures etc .One set has an has a manual serial # of 1700- 920-0-30 ,printed in Hong Kong describes the set as ACOMS AP-227 MK111"TECHNIPLUS"and the set comprises of AP227 tx , ARC227 rx and AS7 servos The tx is made in Hong Kong ,the rx and servo s are made in Japan. The 2nd set has a manual # 1741-920-0-31 printed in Hong Kong describes the set as 'AP-227 MK111 BEC NR' and the set comprises of the same items but an AR227FE rx which is BEC instead of the ARC 227 rx which is non BEC .I hope this is of some help

I have 4 MK 111 tx's and they are all made in HK

BEC set on left - early non BEC set on right

Hi Kev, does your early MK3 box (mid blue) show AS-5 servos in the picture on the box side like my box does? (You'll probably need a magnifying glass for this BTW)

Also, does your early MK3 box say "Made in Hong Kong" like mine? Does your frequency flag clip (if you have it) have nothing written on it like my MK3 clip? (the MK1 and MK2 sets have "JAPAN" written on the clip).

I just noticed a couple of other things, there doesn't appear to be a neck cord for the MK3 either mentioned in the instruction manual front page (as on Kev's pic') or on the box pictures, and I've never seen one in anyone's showroom. Also none used on the Punk Brewster episode with the MK3 radio sets (click on link in my sig.) that I noticed ? Also the frequency flag and it's sticker and it's clip appear to be identical (apart from the "Japan" lettering") on the MK1, MK2, and MK3. The Transmitter Crystals appear to be just about identical between MK1, MK2 and MK3 sets also, at least as regards the plastic casing they are in and the moderately metallised paper sticker on the front, although both my MK1 and MK2 X'tals are TQC brand whereas my MK3 TX Crystal is UNI brand. My MK1 and MK2 receiver X'tals have "thick paper" surrounding them (the grip) whereas my receiver X'tal that I used to start to complete my MK3 set has a metallised look and feel to this paper "grip" around the Crystal, but this particular X'tal came from an ARB227 (MK2 receiver). However all 3 RX X'tals have the identical lettering and lettering deisgn on the paper grips surrounding them. So it looks like my green X'tal set in the first pictures in this topic were from the wrong radio set (anyone know what radio set they are supposed to be from?).

Picture of the label from the rear of this my new MK3 TX ;-

Serial no. is 232975. It's made in Hong Kong. My previous one (my "runner") has a label showing that it's from Asahi Germany, and has 2 white "buttons" sticking out either side on the label. This new one has no white buttons on the label.

Does anyone else have a metallised paper loop around their Acoms MK1 ( ARA227 ) , MK2 ( ARB227 ) , or MK3 ( ARC227 / AR227FE ) receiver Crystal ( Xtal ) like that shown above with the shiny paper one around my Orange receiver X'tal ?

If so, which set is it from? MK1, 2, or 3? and which other colors did the metallised ones come in? Just orange?

Interested to know.

Today I received a second non-BEC MK3 set but this time it's Made In Japan instead of Hong Kong, and it's got the UK importer label on it ( RIKO ). I was surprised to find that the boxes are a different color LOL. The MIJ one is blue , the MIHK one is purple !

Other than that the boxes are identical.

Managed to get a very good Yellow TX X'Tal with this one, together with unbroken clip ( marked JAPAN ) but unfortunately the yellow flag is not in so good condition but it's label is. The TX itself is in quite fine condition except for some scratches around the left hand side of the recess where the X'Tal is inserted.

The TX says made in Japan on the back of it. Serial number is 0096587.

Well it seems like my idea to reproduce the ARD227MP ( came after the ARC227 and before the ARE227 , MP standing for Manufacturer Prototype I think ) as seen in the Tamiya Fox video, and as shown in this topic ;-

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...st&p=296485

...is working at last now that I dug out my old Laser Printer and tried that instead. On my inkjet , using either it's pigment based or it's dye based inks , the ink just stayed as drops on the surface. However with the laser printer because it fuses the ink onto the silver (adhesive backed) paper (from the local art shop, Rennies Art Shop in St.Helens , cost 65p a sheet ) with heat , the ink stayed bone dry and black and doesn't rub off. Unfortunately my toner is out (fading in places), so I will need to use my friend Wilf's or get a new toner until I can complete this task. Results shown below for now though...

Now all I need is to get an ARE227 as well to transplant this label onto, and then I can start collecting parts for a Fox... all I have so far is the Speed Controller Mounting Plate NIP LOL.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

With a couple of alterations to the bitmap (included below is the latest version) and another mockup, this is looking pretty close I feel (until I go away and examine it closely against the Fox video LOL) printed onto normal plain paper and stuck onto an ARC227 (ARE227 has an identical case I suspect from pictures that I have seen of it) with cellotape ;-

BTW the details are, this bitmap needs to be printed out at 101 per cent scale in Photoshop CS, it's 2150 pixels wide and it's printed at 1190 DPI to make it 45.89mm wide. Then it comes out the perfect size for the label, on my Canon MP610 printer.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Only one error was noticed, the leftmost edge of the letter L of LSI needed to be aligned with the left most edge of the letter D of Digital. Also I made the letter I of LSI 6 per cent wider to make it more noticeable. Now the label is a very close match indeed to the manufacturer prototype at least from what I can see from the Fox video.

Here is the final bitmap.

I guess you can see that I am obsessed with Acoms MK1,2,3 equipment!

Cheers,

Alistair G.
