Looking at the sheer number of these on ebay, i decided there would be demand for spares. so have purchased a 'Bonzer' with the intention of breaking for spares. I have noticed:

The body is a stadium raider style, of ok quality but not quite tamiya smooth.

The esc is feeble, when there is not signal it has a mind of its own.

raido system seems pretty good

hbx 550/560 ( not sure) motor with a fan isnt bad - good torque. came with a tt01 style heatsink that had some very hard edges. motor has a brass pinion glued on

Battery and chager are pretty normal for a cheap car

Chassis seems pretty sturdy - though all the screws are thread locked! this sucks.

shocks and springs seem fine, though they arent long enough.

very good quality all metal dogbones, axles and diff drive cups look identical to tamiya ones - o rings on all of them.

diff seems fine,

something was too tight in the driveline and it all felt likeit should be a lot looser - maybe to do with the bushings on the inside. it had rubber sheilded bearings on the axles and metal centre drive shaft.

wheels and tyres seemed pretty good - wild dagger clones i think - tyres proably need truing and gluing.

all this said - its a lot of stuff for under 50

i'm sure there will be lots of broken ones this christmas, so i will be selling the bits where the thread hasnt been ruined by the stupid thread lock.

hope this might be useful for anyone ... i have been busy with course work recnetly so i havent got any of it listed on ebay - if anyones interested in any parts i can do a TC price

Hope it goes well for you but the problem is most of the TLO1 & Det clones etc are sold to people who either run/break them, then bin/sell/give away or just dump in the loft or if they are the type to attempt a repair they do a bit of reasearch and fit/buy the better quality Tamiya parts as they tend the be interchangable and easier to find on the Bay etc as I am pretty sure they are direct licence copies of Tamiya's. All the same hope you do well.

I have one of these, a Baja King clone.

Apart from the fact that the CPR unit isn't waterproof, it's a great little machine, mine's survived 3 or 4 drownings & come back to life each time (although I don't know how many more times I will get away with abusing it like that)

Mine came fully ball raced, & not cheap ones either, it has rubber shielded ones in the hubs.

I haven't had cause to open it up any further so I don't know what type are fitted internally.

If you can find one on auction rather than BIN & pay less than full price for it, they're a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

there were a load up a while back at 35 starting bids + post, from a few general shops (one of those slightly dodgy ones !) there are always loads up there at around 70 BIN, but i guess there were just a load of these misteriously appearing in a 'warehouse' in manchester...

If your HBX TL01b clone is 'tight' check your main driveshaft. Mine had 2 brass bushes in there and the side gears were too big. Loosen the 6 screws for the driveshaft cover and the chassis is nice and smooth, tighten and it cooks motors. I put my side gears in the lathe and removed 0.5mm from their diametre and removed material from each side of the gear so that I could fit a bearing where the bushes were. I needed to sink the crosspin deeper into the gear too.

The ESC I got with mine runs to about 1/2 battery then keeps needing to be reset (tossed to the junk box).

The 1800mAh pack is good and constantly charges to 2200mAh. Charger is a joke and I threw mine in the bin.

Radio gear is good and transmitter is slightly smaller than most and fits a 6yr olds hands perfect.

The 550 motor seems good, though I removed mine and fitted a silvercan 540 and TEU101BK and put the heatsink on my CM36s motors (Fit's in DF01/TA02 perfect)

The turnbuckles and dogbones on mine are all different weights LOL.

Tolerances on the oil shocks are bad and it's possible to overtighten the bottom cap which squeezes the o-rings too tight on the shaft and makes the shocks sticky.

Mine came with a 19T steel pinion fitted to the 550.

The plastic quality, fit and finish of the parts is no where that of a Tamiya TL01b.

Nothing was threadlocked luckily.

For what I paid though you can't go wrong... $0.99c + $36 p&p new.
