Hi guys,

I have been running a Sport tuned in the Pumpkin and would like more torque and speed for climbing hills and jumping!

I searched the forum and found the two motors above for a 101BK ESC. Don't really want to upgrade the ESC if possible.

What would you advise?

At 25T, the GT Tuned is the "safer" of the two motors to use with the stock ESC. It probably won't give you any issues and has more torque than the run-of-mill Sport Tuned (plus being able to replace the brushes and rebuild it is nice too). The Super Stock RZ is hit or miss with the TEU-101. Some go into thermal shut down with this motor and others don't seem to have any problems. The Pumpkin's chassis is nice and open and "airy" for cooling purposes but the big tires do exert more load. Someone on here is getting away with this combo in a Hot Shot and that chassis has zero airflow. I've even heard of folks using a thermal glue to attach a larger heatsink to the stock ESC to aid in cooling. I guess to be safest, go with the GT but I'm sure many will attest the RZ is possible too.

Thanks Saito, How much faster would the RZ be Vs the GT?????

That way I can balance the risks! Vs SPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED ;)

LOL ;) Okay. Here's what I got from Tower...Sport Tuned : 18,300 rpm 350 g-cm (torque), GT Tuned : 19,000 rpm 500 g-cm, and RZ Super Stock : 27,500 rpm 500 g-cm. As you can see the RZ has quite a bit more rpm than the other motors but the GT Tuned has the same torque as the RZ which is way more than the Sport Tuned. For the older 4wd buggys and trucks, that extra torque is nice to have. As far as weighing the speed vs. reliabilty, I personally research alot (ALOT lol, but I'm very cautious and thifty). I'd search all the threads on the TEU 101 (the esc's safe motor limit is a common discussion here) and go from there. Many people would simply give it a shot and if it breaks, oh well, off to buy another esc (although its thermal protection should theoretically save it). Let me know how you make out. I've been pondering over this topic myself.

Thanks Saito, GT Tuned looks like a winner for me, like a turbo diesel with all that torque low down! But what about top end???????????

These are NOT TRUE DYNO stats for the RZ. If they were the 23T RZ SS would smoke a 19T Spec Mod like "THE MONEY" by Checkpoint..

Saying that, the 23T could cause problems for that ESC so be prepared.. I have heard the heavier the wheel rotation with a 23T motor, the more likely the 101BK will shutdown if you are running a STRONG battery pack..

GT tuned needs to be geared tall to get decent speed out of it. Since it's a torquey motor, it can handle it without getting too hot.

I ran a BZ (similar to RZ) in my Lunchbox for a while with the stock 101 speed control. It only thermalled(sp?) once, but that was with a lot of start-stop driving. After it cooled off, it was fine.

Thanks for the info DB!
