hey guys,

I've been having issues with one of my battery packs. A friend of mine got the bright idea to spit into the connector before attaching the ends, and since I get nothing out of my functional battery pack either. Is my ESC fried? How do I test it? Thanks in advance

Bizarre - how on earth would spitting into it have any beneficial effect? I hope you gave your friend a slap

Easiest way to test a battery pack is to connect it directly to a motor - best to put the motor in a vice though cos it'll kick back with max revs!

If it is your ESC you are worried about - what type is it? Does it have any LED's that light up?

I have a re re Lunchbox, so the ESC is a TEU-101BK. Reverse works sporatically, with no forward on either of the battery packs I use. The light is on, and reacts to the throttle. The wheels do turn from left to right, so there is juice to the steering servo. Should I try resetting the ESC?

yes, try reseting the TEU. if that fails then it probably is dead. mind you the fact that the wheels do not turn is sure sign it has had it.

i once fixed one of my TEU's by soaking it in distilled water for half an hour, then rinsing it with fresh distilled water. left it to air dry and it was fine. <_<

Don't forget to disconnect the motor when setting the ESC. <_<

This is the 2nd time Willy? TEU101BK needs the motor disconnected from the ESC to do setup. It's in the instructions.

OK...tried to reset the ESC. Unplugged the motor, and followed the set-up sequence. I never saw multiple beeps from the red light on the ESC. When I wiggle the wires near the connectors, the light blinks on and off like I have a faulty wire somewhere. Am I correct, or is the ESC fried?

It sounds like a corroded Tamiya plug. I cut them off and solder on hi voltage plugs soon as I buy anything that has them. If the power has turned on/off mid setup it will loose where it was up to and go back to the previous setting.

nup, motor can remain connected... just retested it for your benefit - got a 101 sitting right here on desk

motor will not operate during programming but it will 'beep' when you press the button

oh the other thing... if water has gotten into your ESC, sometimes it can interfere with the switch or button's operation

plug the motor back in... does it bleep in sync with the flashing red LED?

that means there is no signal from the RX = its not receiving from TX

check your radiogear

Right lets get this straight. i have used TEU-101BK's for years and know how to make them tick.

the motor HAS to to disconnected for the setup to work, spitting into the terminals is a very stupid idea witch will damage either the ESC or battery (or both).

you should check all the wires going to and from your receiver are in one piece as they cut so easily

if that fails take the 101BK apart using rubber gloves as not to damage it even more, and check all the connections there are ok.

Still not working? Well reach for the nearest bin i am afraid. <_<

go ahead, believe whatever you want fellas

just tried with another TEU101BK, full system all plugged up working fine. Then flicked the TX's CH2 reverse switch,

pushed ESC's button ('bip!') trigger full up +press ('bip!' flashes double) trigger full back +press ('bip!' LED goes out)

and hey its working "normal" like it should again.

Flipped the CH2 reverse again... repeated... meh, all working again.

(hey, maybe each & every TEU101BK i've touched have been defective!! i think i'm up to my 43rd...)

The only reason the instructions say to disconnect motor is to avoid a runaway (or personal injuries) before setup.

I've always set mine up with the motor attached, I guess by mistake!

Lad at racing on Monday night set a new one up on my Mini with the motor attached....

This just has to be down to a bad connection somewhere if moving the wires makes it do things. I think TAmark was right on the money with his corroded plug idea.

There is nothing wrong with the ESC, it's the connector. Your friend spitting into it probably helped to corrode it. Replace the plugs and it will be fine.

And a TEU101-BK does not need the motor to be disconnected for setup, I've adjusted plenty of them while installed in others cars at my club to know it works fine and the motor being connected helps the setup as it gives an audio signal through the motor. The instructions tell you to disconnect the motor (don't doesn't say you have to) to idiot proof the setup in case someone messes up the setup and their car then shoots off into the distance on its own.
