I recently bought a set of 50mm Yeah Racing shocks for my TA01 on-road basher project, they seem pretty good value at $30 delivered for a set of 4, but the car is very low. Could somebody please tell me what length the original shocks were? And if the answer is 60mm .... does anybody want a brand new set of 50mm shocks?

The listed hop-up shocks for the TA01 Skyline are mini CVA's (formerly #50332, now #50519) they cab be built to varying lengths from 55mm to 70mm.

Looking at the manual, the kit shocks are built with all the internal spacers & the short bottom eyes, making them about 55mm long.

Manual here: Clicky

The static ride height is set by what spacer you fit to the spring.

If the YR shocks you bought are only 50mm, then I would expect the car to sit quite low, possibly only 1-2mm clearance under the chassis. If you can fit longer bottom eyes, you may be able to use them.

Thanks for that. Considering they are only about AUD$26 I may as well just buy the 55mm ones and be done with it , considering how cheap they are, they are not bad at all for a backyard basher.

Before there was the really short CVA's for mini's (Micro CVA?) I remember we used to race our 01/02's with the shocks at about 55 - 52mm. The angle of the rear shocks meant that when we got the chassis down nicely, there was nearly no travel from the rear, as the shocks were nearly fully compressed from spacers. Now you can get the shorty mini shocks, I reckon the go would be:

Front:50519 on the front, built with 2 of the long restricting spacers, not the long and the short.

Rear:The mini units with the 3mm restricting spacer.

Thanks Bad Mutha T. I think I will stick with the Yeah Racing ones as the Tamiyas are about $30-$40 for a pair. I found some longer ball sockets today and I am going to try that, if that fails I will order the 55mm ones. Or should I order the 60mm and leave myself the option of using limiters to shorten the shaft? Decisions, decisions!

You wouldn't have an old set of TA01 arms lying around still by any chance? I've ordered a set from Lightwater Models but I am getting very impatient!!!

By the way the Slash Class is on for Ryde in 2009, hope to see you there. Read this newsletter for further details.

Cheers,

OK. added some longer ball sockets and seems to have improved things a fair bit, still thinking about getting the 60mm version though as this is meant to be a basher not a racer.

Slash at Ryde, I'll be there with bells on... Actually, that's a lie. No bells.

And I do have a front set of arms, and upper links. They are in a box... Somewhere  . I'll grab them next time I see them. I think I might of let the rears go. I probably have enough 02 stuff as well to get you sorted.
