Hello all! I've just placed an order for my first truck and being as its my favorite in real life I went for the Scania R470. I'm really excited about it but just have a few quetions. I know there's lots of hop ups available but I cant really afford them all at once so I sort of need to decide what to fit during the build and what to retro-fit. I cannot afford the mfu, do that is out of the question although I would love it! I bought the kit from modelsport-uk and went for the combo deal so I have everything I need to get up and running but I have read that I should fit roller bearings and I didnt order those! Is it really neccassary? What difference will it make? I will be mainly building the truck to use indoors for manouvering exercises etc not racing it. Is there anything I should do/change whilst bulding it?

Thanks. and any advice would be really appreciated!!

IMO bearings will help with general wear and tear over the life of the model. Plus going back and adding bearings later could be a really big task. Other than that your plan sounds great and should be a really fun build.

Well, i got my truck and building has comenced! I think bar the paint it will be finished today so I'll get some pics up asap! I went for the bearings, got some of ebay for a good price and so far everything seems ok except for that I think I have some wrong bits! Its the little shock hangers, you know the bits that go through the shock to allow some movements, theyre way too long! So I need to figure that one out today! I'm havin fun though, what a great kit! Its so nicely made!

Well done Ron, glad your having fun!

I too am new to the world of Trucks, and have just spent the christmas period building my first; a King Hauler. There's some lovely engineering, and everything is superb quality. Have you got a trailer yet?? I went for the Pole Trailer, and that too is beautifully engineered.

You have made a wise decision fitting ball bearings during the build

Hi Ron...

If you havent already noticed, Tamiya put a nice 1:1 drawing of all of the nuts, bolts, screws washers etc (and quantity) in the margin of the manual that are required for each step of the build...

I have built quite a few of the "big rigs" as well as quite a few others, and still use that guide to ensure I have the correct screws/parts throughout the build..

Goodluck and have fun...

Good choice currently rebuilding my scania - it was full option (nearly everything you could get from tamiya fitted!) but I wasn't keen on the colour when it was all finished!

Left it on a shelf for a year, then before christmas decided I would sort it - bought a load more parts and started the redo!

Just started on the reefer trailer I have had tucked away for months while the body paint is drying!
