Just a few essential upgrades, sport tuned motor, full ball bearings, and a rather nice futaba ball raced servo.

bit more work done, gearbox is in but has not been shimmed as the shims kept dropping down into the gear casing. so i will have to drive carefully. motor has been run in as well.

Nice build thread dude :)

Don't worry too much about the diff shimming, and rear drive shaft thingy; I have the re-re Frog as well as the Vintage one, and my re-re has proven to be tougher for some reason. Mine has the sport tuned in, and I've had it over a ramp on numerous occasions, sometimes about five foot in the air! Never had the diff jam, or the drive shafts pop out yet :D

Look forward to seeing the finished piccy's :P

Realy nice to see another frog going together.

I built mine about 2 weeks ago now and since building it i still have not driven it as the esc was not there and i did not have one but have one on its way from h.k.

I cant wait to drive it and see how it is.

I also got a rising fighter for xmass and built it yesterday afternoon and finnished it off last night.

Took it out for a drive today and it brought back so many memmories of my child hood with my hornet as there basicly the same kind of build.

I built it stock apart from roller bearings but want to put the dirt tuned motor in and keep it all tamiya i will be posting pics tomorrow have to clean the dust of it first.

Looking forward to seeing your frog finnished also.

Will you be doing it box art?

Posted

No it will not be box art, i am having a light blue strip along the bottom. ( it saves a lot of explaining about why my racing buggy has pink on it! )

any way here are some updates

Really enjoyed this thread, Thanks for sharing!

What was the problem with the rear tyres?

The rear wheels would just not go into the tyres. but luckily my 24 year old cousin was coming over from London and he built an original frog at my age, so i asked him and he did it instantly! ;)

The shell has been cut out but it is too cold to paint at the mo ;)

nice thread matey.

thanks.

i have just found out that with some resealable zip ties i can Mount my camera to the bumper really well. so i will maybe put up a video for the drivers perspective. i hope the temp picks up before i have to go back to school so i can get this shell painted! ;)

Masking this thing is a pain in the ***. i spent almost an hour doing it this morning only to find the tape was not sticky enough. so it all had to come off.

Has anyone else noticed that the worst thing you can use to mask something is masking tape? it does not flex it folds, and paint seeps under it.

can i use electrical tape?

Posted

Nice build - never really considered the frog, but that chassis looks quite fun!

Your must be using cheap masking tape! Decent masking tape will shape to body shells well and not let paint 'seep'.

When I do detail work I use a thin (3 or 6mm) pinstriping masking tape ( it feels more like electrical tape, but is a masking tape, Halfrauds sell it) then 'block' in with normal tape.

You can buy special flexy masking tape at your local motorfactor store (halfords?), it is expensive but should be worth it!!

I know what you mean about the tape, I recently ruined a shell and had to sand it all back,

I don't know what scheme you have in mind, but can't you paint the main colour on the inside?, and then detail the outside!

will go to halfords and have a look for some good tape in a bit then. if i was in charge of tamiya all shells would come pre masked.
