I may be over-analysing this but I noticed a difference in the suspension arms when looking at the catalogue pictures of the Ultima VS what the instructions manual (and hence the actual parts) show.

The instruction manual shows the rear suspension arm with cross-like design (similar to the Optima Mid) while the catalogue pictures show the rear suspension arms with round/circular holes.

Has anybody noticed this? And if so, any ideas whether the difference indicate a different batch run or production year?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Ian

Don't know which catalogue pictures you have, but every Ultima except the long arm Pro II/XL have the same arms, from the first to the last. The difference indicates the prototype against the production models.

I'm looking at the '88 catalogue. Interestingly, the instruction manual front cover also shows the same arms as seen in the '88 catalogue. But the instruction manual pages showing the build steps indicate a different arm design.

Thanks again

Those are pictures of the prototype, they never made it to production. You will also notice in those pictures there is no mounting lug on the motor mount to attach the rear of the roll cage either.

Yeah, noticed that too. And also there are no posts to mount the body shell onto the chassis. I had no clue whether they were prototype pics or just a different version. But thanks for helping clear the doubts!
