I also love retro guitars. My two Favourites, that are hanging pride of place on our living room wall are a 1969 Gibson EB2, and a 1980 Rickenbacker 4001. IMHO, 2 of the coolest bass guitars ever built. I have a real hankering for a mid 70's Gibson Thunderbird at the moment :(

Your EB2 and 4001 are way to cool :P You would have more geek points if you had a Stienberger  but thats a completely different forum

Your last name wouldn't happen to be Bunker? To tell you the truth, I think "Meathead" has a nice ring to it as only good friends will call his buddy a meathead.

Wonder if Im a geek? I collect tamiyas that don't work, listen to 70's-80's rock, reggae ect on my mission speaker which I found thrown out and repaired myself, only ever had top marks in a test about 5 times in 3 years, currently writing a 7 page geography essay, got a shed full of stuff that will come in handy one day, got 2 vintage italian mopeds neither of which run at the moment(73 garelli katia and a 71 italjet bambino aka indian mm5a in usa currently undergoing a full restoration by me) only person in my whole awfull school that knows roughly how an engine works. So am I a geek? I used to play that stupid runescape up untill last week when I realised it was rubbish, lvl 92 if anyone wants to buy my account? Oh and im known as the ebay freak at school since no one else uses it, and I sell loads of things at school, once I had a fat ps2 and a gamecube hidden in my bag

My cousin definatly isn't a geek. He is always in trouble and late for school. He doesn't think science is important even though we have our biology gcse in may 09, likes to be the show off with a new expensive phone ever few weeks(he has an iphone at the moment but it be sold soon) and likes sitting in flashy cars. Not a geek at all.

Ryan if you ever sell that tamiya banner I want first dibs

I like taliesin's comments about what is "normal"

The world is too full of sheep these days, who want to dress the same, do the same things, and have to do, or look, which ever way the media says is cool............... Wasn't it Oscar Wilde that said "Today's fashion is tommorow's form of ugliness"??

My user ID of "Retroman" is a bit of a statement of who I am really, and it's also a really cool track by a US rock band called "Spirit Caravan"! That's another love of mine, Obscure retro rock music. I tend to listen to bands that have an original theme to their music, rather than bands who are rehashing things a bit. No X-Factor, or this so called R&B that's about today for me!! :P Proper R&B is pretty cool, but I think that the term has been Hi-Jacked by the music business...............

Another Retroman thing is the cars that my wife and I drive. The newest car that we own was built in 1978. Whats an ECU?? Give me a Carb, points, and a coil anyday.

I also love retro guitars. My two Favourites, that are hanging pride of place on our living room wall are a 1969 Gibson EB2, and a 1980 Rickenbacker 4001. IMHO, 2 of the coolest bass guitars ever built. I have a real hankering for a mid 70's Gibson Thunderbird at the moment

The same rules apply to my taste in RC cars really. My Mrs kindly bought me a Tractor Truck, and Trailer for Christmas this year. What a little star!! For me it had to be the King Hauler, due to it's really cool retro looks. I think if I build another, it will be the Globe Liner.

Well, that's me in a nutshell!! ;)

Ohh I have some guitars aswell. Very old aria pro 11(or pro 2) with the dragon carving on it, my dad got it years ago for 75, all strings are missing but its got the humbucker pickups and I have a fender precision bass I found thrown out, possibly a rare one as I havn't seen another one in the same colour.

Forget points its much easier to get cdi and you never have to worry about setting points ect.

What car is it btw?

Dazaa, the old Aria pro II was a **** good bass in it's day, and still is! Look up Metallica's bass god Cliff Burton on You-Tube..... Totally awesome

The Mrs and I have 3 Precision type basses kicking around. One of them I found in a junk shop, with only three strings on it, and I gave the guy a tenner for it!! Got it home, put some new strings on it, and it's got a lovely warm growl to it B) think it's a late 70's copy. My Mrs plays a Precision with Seymour Duncan quarter pounders in it. That does growl!!

Forget points?? Wash your mouth out young man!! Points, Carburettor, etc are the future...... You can actually fix them at the road side! Well, my 1975 Rover 3500 has had an electronic ignition kit fitted, but I keep the original points and condensor in the glovebox just in case the moderness lets me down........ :P

My retro rides are as follows;

1975 Rover P6 3500 V8

1975 Mk2 Escort 1600 Ghia

1978 Mk2 Escort 1600 Ghia

1978 Mk2 Escort 1300 GL

And there's an old Morris lying around somewhere as well B)

PS, If you want to get rid of the Pro II...........????

Well the pro11 is a stratocaster not a bass unless you already know that  Sorry it's never going to be sold as it has alot of sentimental value and it looks nice with the p bass and an old audition acoustic I found with the fender on display. Sure points are simple and when I recieve my nos bosch coil and get my 73 katia running(only taken me 5years..) I probably will love points, but they are dated and a hassle to look after...cdi is expensive but theoretically much better. Never liked rovers all way to ugly imo, there is an old thats been sitting outside a car garage rusting away for years and I have never once thought I should ask if it's forsale, infact I would only buy it and pull the engine out if it was a 3ltr. Thats if I could drive and had a garage.....Always liked the old mk1-2 escorts especially the rally cars and the mexico's. Is it a moggy 1000 or morris traveler? A picture would be nice if it was either as me and my dad both really like them....Although I would rather stick a massive 6ltr chevy engine in it and turn it in to a drag car....he would rather it was kept standard...thats if we ever buy one......

Yep im defintally a geek.

Out of curiosity how much would you offer for the pro11?

Not Archie.. I should point out some people use the word 'MEATHEAD' in different ways. In my neck of the woods a Meathead was a guy who played sports, drove a V8 Camaro or Mustang and was an idiot  ...

None of this was true to my character back then  , I am 36 years old now.. I think I am normal B)

I still own a Camaro Z28

im building a new PC right now and all im thinking and speaking in is techno babble. all i have going through my mind is SLI certified, FSB, 24pin vs 20 pin and 8pin vs 4 pin, CAS latency, the weird error, which i for get the name of, that happens in the AMD Phenom 9500 and 9600 and related computer building worries. did you know that a CAS lateny of 4-4-4-12 is better than 5-5-5-18 but 4-4-4-12 can only happen when your RAM is running at 2.1volts?

i wish i could get a mustang or camero. be bad on the ice though. my neighbor kinda got his 70s era, at least i think he said it was 70s era, stuck in the snow today.

Camaro's are one of my favourite all time cars. I'm hoping someday to get the money together to buy a 1969 model. Gorgeous :D

Kaiser, the "Doctor low tech" thing made me smile! That about somes me up actually.......... I'm absolutely useless with computers, prefer amplifiers with valves in, only like cars with chrome bumpers and no airbags........ Still don't know how to use all the features on my mobile phone!

Dazaa, Rovers are ugly? You need to see Rovers that were built before the great British Leyland sellout...... The P5 saloons, and coupes are gorgeous, and built like a brick outhouse! The P6 models are my favourite. I love the agressive front end styling, and the long sweeping bodywork

my Rover P6

Mine is the white one, on the right :D

The old Morris I have here is a 1967 Mk1 1800, AKA the Landcrab, as the motoring press of the day used to call them! :P

I have to admit, I didn't realise there was a ProII guitar!! My mate used to have an Aria ProII bass.

Well I'm obviously not on my own here eh?! I came up with a new level of geeky-ness today. I have a cool Tamiya poster that I won off ebay, and I always find I'm forgetting stuff when I go to my LHS. SOOOO I bought one of those DIY picture frames and a special non-permanant pen, ET VOILA! I now have a cheap whiteboard and It looks cool (It has a Sand Scorcher on don't you know?!) Feel free to copy it as I recon it cost me about 10 and is proper useful!

GEEEEK!

that land rover p6 is really neat. thats a cool rover!

my dad has a little old MG B that has 4 flat tires, doesnt run, upholstery is almost gone. looks like a summer project to me! im stuck with a gutless Mitsubishi Montero that has alternator problems that make you have to rev the motor abouve 2000RMPs to get headlights or dash lights.

Cheers Dude :)

The good thing with the MGB's is you can get every part for them, and it's all reasonably priced. Even brand new bodyshells! Sounds like you have a nice project there. You can't beet dragging a beat up old car out of somewhere, and brining it back to life :)

Yeap, I'm a bit of a classic car geek as well! :D

So maybe there's a link between liking vintage/ classic cars, and vintage Tamiya then??? :D

Dazaa, if you PM me a picture of the Rover you have seen, I can give you a better idea of what it's worth. Least desirable are the 2000cc single carb automatics, the twin carb models are slightly more desirable, 3500 V8's are the ones getting the money now, "S" models with the manual gear box are most desirable, and the estate cars are the holy grail B)

I paid 500 for mine, and it was the same colour originally as the one it is parked next to in the picture. I have thrown a **** load of money at it since then though!! The bumpers are US spec, and came all the way from California. They're totally different to the UK spec bumpers. It's had pretty much every outer body panel replaced, full repaint, full leather interior, boot mount spare wheel kit....... Planning on a brake servo rebuild in the next couple of months, and then getting the auto gearbox rebuilt in the next few months B)

Oh dear, I've just shown my Nerd side! :P:D:o
